I take a chewable from the health food store, and 5000 micrograms a day of biotin, and my B's. Of course I take my calcium citrate, you know not to take calcium with your iron and Vit. C, you have to take them 2 hours apart from the iron and the C. You are supposed to take the iron with the C together. Well, that is how my Dr tells me to take them, ask your Dr, I do not want to give you misinformation.

Remember we all have different needs. Your nutritionist will help you determine what vitamins and supplements are right for you. Also keep in mind biotin will not prevent hair loss. Biotin helps keep your hair, skin, and nails healthy. Most Biotin labels recommend 5000 mcg daily.

We are reviewing the medical literature and the only linkage we have found so far between biotin and hair loss is in cases where there is some kind of eating disorder. We aren't finished, but that is the way it looks like it will come out. I say that even though we are launching our bariatric vitamins in two weeks, and it does have biotin. ----------------------------------------------------------- Separately, a protein deficiency is a strong suspect when when there is hair loss. Finally, there is the shock to your body from the surgery, and that can contribute to hair loss in the early weeks. ----------------------------------------------------------- Does that help? My surgeon's office holds support groups several times per month, and they always have sample packets of bariatric vitamins from the various manufacturers. I tried "Bariatric Fusion" chewables, but couldn't remember to take 4 pills spread out through the day. So now, I take Bariatric Advantage Chewable Multi-vitamins. If you sign up for automative shipments of a three month supply, ordered directly from the manufacturer, costs about $36, and they bill it automatically to your credit card, and then DON'T charge you shipping charges. I find that to be entirely in line with other vitamin supplements. I also order their pro-biotics the same way...they ship a 3 month supply and charge my card automatically, and do not charge shipping. As for other pills or vitamins, we were told not to take anything larger than the visible part of an eraser on a pencil unless it was quick dissolving (like dissolves in under 10 minutes in warm water), and nothing that is timed-release. My other vitamins, I get from the Vitamin Shoppe and Walmart. I get 5000 IU of Vitamin D (little teeny tiny tablets), and 5 mg of Biotin (little teeny tiny capsules), and B-12 sublingual, not to mention Coromega packets of chocolate-orange flavored Omega-3. I can't taste the fish oil, but my daughter can and doesn't like it. Me.... I could eat two or three of them per day for snacks, except that they have a more fat in them than I want in my diet. I know a lot of people out there eat Adult Gummy vitamins, but I persoally don't think they are getting all the nutrients they need, plus, there are the extra calories to think about and the number of them that you have to take per day. I prefer to take multi-vitamins specifically formulated for bariatric patients because they KNOW about and address our malabsorption issues...and my new lease on life is important enough to me to buy the best that I can afford. Oh, and one more thing... I get my Calcium Citrate chewable wafers from Twinlab (at either the Vitamin Shoppe or the Vitamin Cottage - but GNC probably carries them, too), and I get my chewable vitamin C at Walmart. For hair loss, I take 1 biotin in the morning, and 1 Biotin at night for a total of 10 grams or 10,000 mcg, plus I use the Nioxin brand hair products for "visibly thinning hair". My hairdresser seems to think it's working, says she sees lots of new growth. But I also agree with one of the previous posters....if you drop below a certain level of protein intake, you will experience hair loss several weeks later....so keep your protein intake up. I personally try to get in over 100 grams per day. Hope this helps!
