Question:
Complications over 6 years after RNY intussusseption anyone else having problems?
I have had my second surgery in 2 months the last a bowel ressection on December 26th. Just wondering if anyone else is having difficulties and how they are coping. — tlooney (posted on January 2, 2009)

I am sorry you are having such problems. Does your doctor believe it is
related to your WLS? I am 7 years post op and have two follow-up surgeries
- my gallbladder removed (this may or may not be WLS related) and my
appendix removed, not WLS related.

I am so sorry that you have had so many problems and complications. I had
LapBand a couple years back and thank goodness haven't had more than
getting something stuck and needing an unfill and to restart the process.
Please know that I am sending out prayers and well wishes your way. My
father has had several bowel obstructions (I know, not the same) and
remember the long nights in the hospital and the lengthy recovery period.
You will feel a little better every day. I hope you have dear loved ones
to care for you and support you in every way.
Best of luck,
Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC

Apparently, it is a late onset complication from WLS, greater than 1 year
out and greater than 100 pounds weight loss. I fit both of them. I
started having abdomenal pain almost a year ago, but it was very
intermittent and felt to be due to female issues. Well, in July I had a
hysterectomy so to alleviate the pain. Then in October after still having
pain and vomitting for 3 weeks had a upper GI and Colonoscopy, which showed
nothing, Yea! Then had a CT Scan with contrast that afternoon where they
found the intusseption. I had surgery a week later from a bariatric
surgeon, who is wonderful by the way! He just manuelly manipulated the
bowel and tacked to down. I still had pain and had other GI follow ups and
he decided I needed to have the bowel resectioned sooner or later. I
decided since I had met my deductables and out of pocket, sad that those
things help to make decisions for us sometimes, but they do. I decided to
wait until after Christmas with my family and have surgery on the 26th of
December. I am recovering at home. Fortunately or unfortunately depending
on how you look at it I am a registered nurse and have enough knowledge to
care for myself and know if I am in trouble. I have never written on an
itranet site before and can see how people get into this stuff, I started
looking where to get support, the good kind and found this site. How
wonderful that you all support eachother. My hats go off to all of you in
all are doing to assist others going through difficult times and help to
celebrate the joys with others. Any way, I have written way too much
already but I will truly use this site for support and direction in the
future. Vickie, I think I may know you, your name sure sounds familiar to
me. Thank you, for all your thoughts and prayers they are truly how we
make through each day. Have a blessed day. Thresa Looney

I am sorry for you and the problems you are experiencing. I am also a
nurse who is 10 plus years post op. I have only had a gall bladder removed
but that was before the WLS. It may or may not be related to the WLS. Do
what the docs say and don't do anything they tell you not to do.
Especially when it comes to lifting and bending after this type of surgery;
you probably know the drill. You will be in my prayers, Thresa. Good Luck
and God Bless and keep posting; let us know what happens after 12/26.

I had my RNY on Valentines Day of 2002, I was doing real good with my
surgery up until 2 years ago, I started experiencing severe pain and
burning. I went thru several test and last year I had to have surgery to
repair a hernia and I was suppose to have an ulcer repaired also but the
doctor was not able to do this procedure to due some complications I was
having.
How has your weight loss been? I have gained approximately 30 pounds and
cannot seem to lose it, I still have some problems with the RNY but have no
insurance.

I have been having some intestinal issues. There is a 3 in section that
has stopped functioning. It is just nuts. The food just sits. I am 5
years out and was hoping and praying for the complications to stop! I
don't think they ever will for me. Hope that you are doing better. What
was you down time for these surgeries? I am not looking forward to missing
work. Who knows what will be on my desk when I return from having this
surgery. Trina
