Question:
I am 3 weeks post-op and would like to know what cereals are good for me to try?

I ate Oatmeal and Cream of Wheat at 3 weeks. I would avoid carbs as much as possible once you are on solids however. Carbs tend to make you hungrier for whatever reason I don't understand. For a change, eat some peanut butter on a spoon. Sounds weird but it satisfied me often at breakfast time, and gives you protein that you need.

this is a question you need to ask your dietican. 3 weeks out you really should not be eating cereal, as your pouch might not handle it.

None, IMNHO . . . cereal is bad juju. It is nothing but carbs, usually way too much sugar, and it leads to milk use. Have another protein shake, and eat some celery with peanut butter. :o)

there is a Weight Loss Oatmeal by Quaker Oats I believe 110 cal or so with 10grams of protein per serving. Two Flavors Cinnamon/Spice and Banana Nut Bread it's really yummy also Special K has a High Protein version of the cereal not sure why the last poster didn't remember we're suppose to have Milk in our diet not just protein shakes which I never could tolerate very well. Some folks have it all wrong about carbs. We do have to have them or our bodies go into diabetic ketosis making our kidneys, and livers work super hard.

I LOVE CEREAL, but it really really hates me since surgery. It depends on the person, but for you being so soon out, I wouldn't attempt anything other than oatmeal or other hot cereals. You may even dump on those, but you can reduce the likelyhood of this by cooking it in low-carb milk. The Carb Countdown, which is now called Calorie Countdown is essentially like a protein shake but tastes like milk. I used it to make old fashioned oats (they are bulkier and have more fiber than the quick oats). It really ups the protein content and helps offset any dumping. I cook it up and add cinnamon and Splenda to it. My son adores it and always wants me to make it over the instant stuff, so you know it has to be good! LOL! Otherwise, cold cereal can be one of those things you might not be able to have. When you get a couple months out, you can try something complex...fiberous, and then use the Carb Countdown milk instead of regular milk. The reason I say this is because even "good for you" cereals will make me really really sick. They just wash right through because of the milk. So you need something that has a LOT of fiber (Fiber One, for instance) and/or is high in protein (Atkins cereals, Good Friends, Kashi, etc) and then the high protein milk, and it will probably keep you from dumping as bad. I'm almost 2.5 years out and I still can't have cereal unless it's dry...and in very limited quantities. It's just like a recipe for dumping, I think. Take carbs, mush them up, mix them in liquid carbs and swallow. Wow - can't get to the intestine any quicker, eh?

I ate oatmeal - I would use about 2 tbsp instant oatmeal to about 3 tbsp milk - make it really runny. I used the plain instant oatmeal so I stayed away from sugar - if you need to sweeten it - I use Splenda...Good luck ~~Monica~~

Hi again! I am also 3 weeks out and was given hot cereal in the hospital. I can eat a 1/2 of a individual packet of cream of wheat or instant SF oatmeal. My doctor says they are permisible. The individual packets are only about 100 calories. Make sure you always mix them with milk and not water. I also add some powdered milk for extra protien. Quaker makes a really good sugar free brown sugar flavored oatmeal. I find that instant hot cereal is really easy on my pouch. Good luck to you!!!
