Question:
Is there anyone else out there that can eat anything without any problems or dumping?
I had surgery on 1/11/06 and as long as I eat slowly, and chew carefully, there is nothing that I can't eat. I still get a very full sensation, but sugar, fat, alcohol, nothing seems to bother me. I've never had any type of "dumping" syndrome. Is there anyone else out there like this? — JamieGarvey (posted on June 13, 2006)

I'm pretty close to that...I did get stomach pains once after eating wings.
I think it was the grease. And then one other time, back in the
beginning, I drank my Atkins protein shake too fast and felt sick to my
stomach. I have never thrown up....knock on wood. In regards to
sugar....I have never pushed my limits....so i really don't know on this
one.

I think it is all trial and error for us. I can basically eat anything
except.. pizza.. bagels.. anything doughy and I totally stay away from
sugar. Seven months later and a 113 pounds lighter.. it's working for me.
I'm not one to push an envelope.. I eat what I am suppose to and how often
I should.. maybe that is why I have been lucky.
Good luck to you!

I have to say the same as Mary. Surgery 4/26/06 but lost my tatse buds
(lol) 2 weeks ago. finally got the taste back once I had about 1/4 of a
beer and 6 steamed oysters with the spiciest Cocktail sauce I have ever
eaten in my life! Really made a difference but still afraid of eating any
sugar as it was my weak point before hand.

I'm 3 1/2 years out, and I believe I have a cast iron pouch. I can tolerate
sugar, straight alcohol, you name it! The only thing that bothers me in the
least is steamed rice, but if I eat other stuff with it, I'm okay. Never
dumped on sugar, and I HAVE pushed those limits! Only dumped once in the
first few months after surgery on one bite of a cocktail sausage. Never
tried it again. I didn't like pureed vegetables after surgery, and I could
only tolerate V-8 juice - only with plenty of tobassco added! I really wish
I was one who dumped on sugar.

Hi-I have never dumped on anything at all. I admit I have tested the
waters. Sugar, fat, alcohol....my doc says that after a year people
usually don't dump anymore anyway. Look at it like a blessing.

I guess I do not understand why you are even trying these things .. that is
why I had the surgery to help me give up sugar ..fat and alcohol... I am
almost 2 yrs out and still will not eat sugar products .. and have had a
drink of alchohol maybe 3 times and that was very diluted. My biggie is
carbs .. I sure don't need to start on these other things. I have gotten
sick and thrown up but don't think I have ever dumped...

Hi Jaime... Only 40% of people get dumping so you are not alone. Your best
eb tis to avoid those foods don't want to fall back into old habits! Best
wishes to you!!!

Jamie,
I had surgery 2 weeks after you. I was wondering the same. I had a piece
of birthday cake this weekend (cut the frosting off) and didn't dump.
That's scary.. it's the sweets that got me in trouble in the first place.

Hi Jamie, I had surgery on 10/19/05 and I can pretty much eat anything like
you as long as I chew it well and eat slowly! The only two things that made
me "dump" I tried a whole banana and apple one time - (not at the
same time-LOL) the natural sugar was more than I can handle - I thought I
was making a healthy choice-I won't do that again...I stay away from
pasta's, rice, fat and sugar - I am glad you asked the question - I was
wondering the same thing. Glad to hear there are a lot of us around!
Blessings to you in your journey! Monica

I guess I shouldn't say this but I will I don't know if anything bad will
bother me cause I haven't tried anything. I had the surgery to lose weight
and I don't want to take a chance of gaining it back. I hope you won't be
one of the ones saying someday gee I wish I wouldn't have ate all that
stuff because you regain all your weight back. I don't mean to be a Bit--
but my doctor told me he gave me the tool it is up to me to take care of
it... Good luck Cindy 4/7/05 242 to 138....

I think you mean that you had surgery in '05 not '06. Anyways, only 40% of
all RNY patients dump. I am one of them. I have to pretty much eat a ton of
sugar before I dump. I wish I did because I am adicted to sugar. My husband
dumps at the drop of a hat and he hardly eats sugar. It should have been
reversed for us. (whine) I want my "dump-o-meter" fixed.

I had surgery on 4/08/03 and I don't dump!!! Well yes - everyone does to a
degree at times as I found out just 2 days ago!! Try eatin a piece of
Homemade bread with butter- and just see. If you can do that I would say
maybe your right. See I thought I didn't dump but let me tell ya it will be
a long time beforre I attempt to eat that again that again. But I will tell
ya as bad as I felt. I felt really relieved that it made me sicker than a
dog for a coupla hours!!! And I can ususlly tolerate a piece of pizza or
something but this has given me a whole new perspective on what I will not
eat now. Just because I am afraid it will make me sick too. And when you
vomit it itsn't normal because you don't have the stomach acid to break
thinks down. It is alot of foam and chunks comin up the same as they went
down. So keep experimenting and you'll find something that will make you
dump....Guaranteed!!! I didn't think it was possible either. Believe me it
isn't a myth!! LOL

Cindy and Judy-get off the "high horse" remember obesity is a
disease of the mind too. Some people are not as perfect as you are. And
how dare you talk about anyone gaining their weight back. Just for saying
that you have jinxed yourself-so good luck to you-you puurrrrfect thing!!!
