Follow your surgeons directions hun. It takes time for your insides to heal.

Hi. I would go by what your doctor told you. Do you have a diet plan for the first few months? We are given the plan because we need to give our stomachs time to heal. Just because you can eat something doesn't mean that you should. *****THIS IS THE DIET PLAN THAT I WAS GIVEN AND I FOLLOWED. THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT IS GOOD FOR EVERYONE OR EVERYONE SHOULD FOLLOW IT. IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFO. ON THIS PLAN LET ME KNOW. For the first 2 weeks I was only allowed liquids. This included soups, popsicles, protein drinks, diluted fruit/vegetable juice, frozen yogurt or ice cream. All should be sugar free. Next was the blended diet for 4 weeks. Anything you eat that is not liquid must be blended or pureed until smooth. Some thing to eat during this time were cottage cheese, eggs, blended meat, baby food and other blended foods. From week 6 to 4 months was soft foods. During this time you can eat most foods. Everything should be soft and should be chewed very well. Foods that are not acceptable are raw fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and popcorn. After 4 months there are no restrictions on what you can eat. Everything should be SF or FF. You should concentrate on getting protein first and try to aviod carbs. As for the amount of food, I was eating about 2-3 oz. per meal at that time. I ate out of dixie cups that were 3 oz. I also ate 6 meals a day. I hope this helps.

If your surgeon ok'd it then I say go for it.....lol I personally waited a few weeks before I tried anything soft/solid, my surgeon doesn't keep us on pureed long.....:) But at 11 days out I was still!

Just don't do it. Some people treat eating early like cheating on a diet. It is endangering your health. Also if you don't allow your pouch to heal correctly you will have a lot of problems with foods later on.

The types of foods you are eating at 11 days post op are softer foods and shouldnt cause any problems. The doctors give us guidelines but soft foods are generally to be tried and used as tolerated... meaning if you try a little bit of something soft and it works it is fine for you. Just be reasonable and make sure you chew well. Many doctors have us on soft foods at 11 days post op. Many doctors have noticed that soft foods at this stage help to push back the healing tissues and produce less incidence of stricture or narrowing of the newly created openings to your stomach and intestines... so you are doing great! Stay away from the sugar and keep eating protein foods like lower fat cheese and deli meats... cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, Splenda sweetened yogurt (Dannon Fit and Lite), scrambled egg with cheese, slightly pureed shrimp and tuna salad, sugar free pudding, protein shakes, string cheese... are all great softer first stage foods. I had the "typical" diet plan, too, but my surgeon said I could push ahead as fast as my body would tolerate it. I think you are doing fine.

I was cleared for solid foods on my 10 day appt. and my surgeon said just to chew everything very well and if it did not go down well to wait a month or so before trying it again. The only things he said to stay away from that early is raw veggies, wait for 3 months for those. I am 4.5 months post op now and still have not tried any kind of bread, cookies, candy, etc. because I have no desire to eat them and I hope I do not want them for a long time.

I envy you - but what you can eat today may not be tolerated next week. Nutritionist is the best person who has WLS experience is the best person to ask - I find doctors good with surgery but not diet. My doctor wanted me to be on liquids 2-3 months and I was dying. Finally went to Nutritionist and she put me on pureed foods - cheese for me are a day to day event sometimes ok sometimes not. I can chew fruit, but I cannot swollow it - that's apples. Watermellon makes so much water - that I have to choose water over melon. I'm 50 days Post-Op down 50 pounds - but still no turkey for - however, I did have 1 TBSPN of tuna at a meal and 1 TBSPN of pasta. The truth is each one of us is different and your have these foods does not mean you are doing something wrong, but be safe and check with your Nutritionist is wise.
