Question:
What type of alcohol can I drink?
I am going to a special celebration this weekend and I would love to have just one drink. What should I try? I have heard screwdrivers, champange, and beer. Are there any suggestions? — DENISE E. (posted on May 21, 2003)

My favorite is Jolly Ranchers. THey are sugary sweet, but I rarly ever
have them and that is the only thing I have with sugar in it. They are to
die for and I have no problems at all with them.

I dump really easy on sugar so I drink diet pop with vodka or rum. You can
also drink malibu with a 100% orange/pinapple juice for a sweeter drink. I
know people that drink light beer, but I hate even the smell of beer! I can
tell you BE CAREFUL!!!! It does work much faster than before, but you can
still have a drink or two and not feel guilty. Good luck and have fun :o)

Try some white wine (chardonnay, pinot grigio or savignon blanc) and a
glass of ice on the side. I just keep adding ice cubes and make a glass
last a couple of hours. Careful though, you will get a faster buzz than
you've ever known.

Hi, Denise! I'm almost 4 months postop and haven't had any real sugary
mixed drinks. I have heard that martinis and gin & tonics are good
because they have minimal sugar, but they're soooooo strong. I did have
champagne on Easter Sunday which I tolerated fine--had just about 1/2
glass--but the champagne bubbles gurgled AUDIBLY in my stomach--too funny!
I have had about 1/2 glass of wine because that's all I was able to drink,
and you WILL get quite a buzz! The good thing is the buzz wore off after
about an hour. Have a good time this weekend!

I like a Grasshopper. I usually have one every three years or so. (I'm not
a drinker). Funny, everyone says booze hits them bad now. Well it does'nt
hit me much at all anymore, and being a non drinker, it should. (Actually
I've had three grasshoppers since my WLS two years ago). It would hit me
before WLS, but does'nt do a thing for me now. lol

Orange juice and pineapple juice with Coconut Rum (Malibu or Parrot Bay
coconut rums are the best -- no added sugar). Have it over ice, not made
into a slush. Divine!

I enjoy sugar-free vodka collins. Mix vodka, sugar-free squirt and crushed
ice. Yummmm

I have no problem at all sticking with screwdrivers--no dumping or
anything. The two times since my surgery that I've really had much to
drink (I am five months out) were so different--the first time, it didn't
seem like I'd had anything, the last time I already felt drunk after the
first drink. Go figure--just another way our bodies change.

well....Usually no more than 2 though...

It may sound weird, but I like Tequila and diet tonic, made like a gin and
tonic with a squeeze of lime. The taste is somewhat similar to a margarita,
but without all the sugar.
