Question:
Is it ok to eat hot peppers @ 6 weeks post-op?

I promise to "try" and make this my last food question... but can my new "best friend" handle hot peppers?? I loved them pre-op, and have been wanting to put some slices on a couple of chips with melted cheese (I know, not the best food choice...but I don't plan on giving up everything)... I just want to make sure that I am not hurting anything by eating spicy stuff! For some reason, since WLS, mustard, ketchup, A-1 sauce, have all been soooo goood!!! It's like the condiments have come alive in my mouth!! lol Anyway, I would appreciate all opinions! Love and light,    — medium (posted on December 30, 2002)

Now you know if you have to ask, the answer is NO! Just kidding (partially). Try them and see. If they don't agree with you, you'll find out soon enough!

I would start with something relatively mild to see how you tolerate it. For me, smoked or pickled jalapenos and any other peppers (even the really hot ones) are fine but for some reason fresh jalapenos really do a number on me. I feel like I am having a heart attack! AND I live in Texas! I have to be really careful before I eat something. They put jalapenos in EVERYTHING! LOL Try it at home so you can take evasive action if things go wrong.

If you've had a bypass-type WLS, such as a RNY, remember that a length of your intestines have been bypassed (in my case 4 feet). So those hot peppers are going to be going into your intestines pretty undigested, so by the time they get to the bitter end, watch out! I ate a Lean Cuisine with a few jalapenos in it (that I thought I mostly picked out), and trust me, the bathroom experience the next day was not pleasant! Hugs, Joy

hi there :)_ i would suggest trying a small taste just at first to see how you are going to handle it. at 6 weeks out, i had not tried hot peppers yet, not becuase i was scared or anything but simply becuase i did not like them yet. now at almoust 11 months out, i crave them and eat them with everything! i eat them on top of my meat or cheese and they really spice things up. i love onions and garlic powder too. everything like that settles with me fine and so far with the peppers, they make their exit fine too, ive not had any stool problems with them. good luck to you. :)

OK Kimberly!!!!lmao (you are probably right(smile) Just wanted to say thank you for all of the responses...I think I will start off with mild Picante sauce, then work my way up to hot and see how that works for me......if everything "comes out alright", I might move on to peppers, but I'll be taking it very slow! Again, thank you for the help!!!! Love and light,
