Question:
Has anyone eaten chicken and dumplings??

Hello once again!! I'm being such a pest these days, but I was wondering....has anyone eaten chicken and dumplings and if so, did it work ok?? I am 5 weeks out and allowed to eat anything (slow and chew), and I "love" chicken and dumplings (from a can...lol) but have sort of been afraid the dumplings might get "stuck"! I have never had anything get stuck so far, but there is always that first time... thank you so much for your help!! Love and light,    — medium (posted on December 28, 2002)

I did , and it was fine. Just cut up the chicken and the dumplings very small. You wont eat much but BOY IS IT GOOD.

Hi! Watch the simple carbs (dumplings). They may taste great but they turn into sugar. Eat mostly chicken with a tiny bit of the dumpling. If you get into the habit of eating the simple carbs, especially disguised in your favorite foods, it will slow down your weight loss. Right now you will lose in spite of them, but it will not always be that way. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

I haven't tried dumplings but I would be wary of them. Not only are they bad as far as carbs are concerned but I would think that they would tend to ball or gum up and could cause a blockage - especially as early out as you are. My surgeon wouldn't allow us to have bread that was not toasted for that reason and dumplings are already gummy. I had some rice after I was over a year out and it caused me a serious problem with nausea and vomiting to the point that I got dehydrated. I had eaten rice before but not that amount and evidently it wasn't cooked well enough. So be really careful - you really don't want to go to the hospital just because of a dumpling.

At 4 weeks out I had chicken and dumplings and done fine. I have listened to everyone and stayed away from carbs the last few days I have eaten a few carbs three bites or so of potatoes and bread and I have lost 3 pounds in two days. I have been a very slow loser. Mixing the diet up seems to help me.

I have had chicken and dumplings on several occasions and did fine with them. It's like any bread, just chew....chew...chew

As a new post op I would worry more about the chicken than the dumplings! Shoot it was about nine months post op before I could eat chicken because of the pain.

I made dumplings for Thanksgiving as I do every year and ate a tiny bit. (I was 4 weeks out at the time) I don't do bread so was worried, but it went fine. Even tho there are SOME PEOPLE who say 'stay away from the carbs!!' like they are the devil himself, it's just the taste..it's not like you could sit and eat a normal serving. Just take it very very slow. Now I'm not so sure about this can thing! lol Good luck to you! :o) Trish

A big thanx to everyone who helped with this question... I decided to just "go for it", as I have not had any problems with anything I have eaten as far as getting "stuck"...so....I heated up a can of chicken and dumplings tonight....I ate 3 little tiny dumplings..lol.. and gave the rest to my "Cuddles puppy"!! They just did not taste right....should have made my own...lol...but that's the way everything has been....I crave it, I fix it, then after a few bites I don't want it!! Mmmmmmmm, guess the "new way of life" is working!(smile) Love and light,

My husband made a big pot of chicken and his famous homemade noodles about 1 week after I came home from the hospital. I drank/ate the broth mostly, then I got brave a tried a few little bites of the noodles... the were wonderful. I am still using the broth and every now and then I will eat a noodle or 2. I am 16 days post op Lap RNY.
