Question:
How do you deal with Cravings?
I am 4 months post op and have lost 60 lbs. I am now able to eat anything I want and find myself slipping back into my old eating habits. I am a "junk food junkie" and am having a hard time staying away from it. How have others dealt with this problem? — Bonnie L. (posted on August 31, 2001)

oops sorry about previous post I goofed it up. Anyway when I get cravings I
eat something healthy and it fills me up and the cravings go away. I have
to have my fridge stocked with things that are good and easy to prepare. If
I am really really craving chips I eat a couple crackers, that seems to
help. Just put something healthy in your mouth before you give into the
cravings. I will be 3 months post-op on the 4th of Sept and I have lost 59
lbs. :) Good Luck

I use several methods to deal with cravings. Start your day with carbs and
you crave carbs all day. That is ANY sugar at all, so milk or cereal is
carbs. Start your day with protein and you have a grip most of the day or
until you hit that first sugar. I put 30g of protein supp in my face before
I even brush my teeth. I use it several times/day anyway to keep my weight
steady where i like it, but I time it before meals so I don't overeat, or
make one up when stressed. I think I am to the point of "lighting on
up" like the smokes I abandoned years ago! I've done the surgery
twice, so am not willing to let the side issues win. If I can't control it
with my head, I will use this method to keep the cravings in check. Every
time I get a protein supp, it nourishes and shuts off the "want"
swtich.
