Question:
How do I count my Calories, Fats and Carbs Post-op?
I am pre-op and am going to be honest, I need a nutrition for dummies course. I have no idea how many calories is in this, or how many carbs is in that. Is there a book that teaches you how to count these things. I am smart enough to know how to read nutrition labels, but what if they are not available. How many carbs, fats and calories is good for us? Again, thanks in advance for all the help. Only 19 days to go (Lap RNY 08-15-01) — Staci P. (posted on July 27, 2001)

My dr. doesn't want us to count calories at all, but no more than 10g sugar
or however much fat you can tolerate and a minimum of 60g of protein per
day.

I bought a book called The Complete book of Food Counts by Corinne T
Netzer; I found it at a book store. It gives nutrition information for lots
of basic foods plus name brands. The only thing it doesn't have is sugar
content; I get that usually from the labels, themselves. It has helped me a
LOT to learn about the nutrition in almost all of the foods I eat. I've
learned to be a good measurer & I don't need to use my book very often
now. I did keep track of my calories & protein as I was learning how to
eat all over again. It was VERY helpful to me.
