Question:
Am I eating too much?
Here's what I ate today. Can you all (especially long term post ops) give me your opinion on choices and quantity? I am 8 months post op. Thanks! Breakfast: 1c Cherrios, 1/2 cup 1% milk and a banana Lunch: 1 cup chili with cheddar cheese sprinkled on top Snack: 10 pretzels Dinner: Turkey hotdog, hotdog roll and 3/4c chili. — Jeannet (posted on April 24, 2001)

Of course, the only one who can really answer this question is your dr.,
but to me that sounds pretty normal. I'm 6 months post op, and I won't
even bother to put down what I ate yesterday, but I can assure you that it
was more then you did...but in keeping with what mynutritionist told me was
ok.

Hi Tammy and Jeanne. I'm almost 7 months post-op, surgery on 9/29/00, and
down 89#s. I have about 40 more to go. Regarding your post to this
question, I was curious about what you said. That you ate more. I, too,
usually eat more than that. Here's an example of what I eat in a given
day:
Breakfast: two strips of bacon (sometimes turkey bacon, sometimes regular)
and 1/2 - 3/4 piece of toast with Polaner spread
Mid-morning: sometimes nothing, sometimes a piece of string cheese
Lunch: 1/2 to 2/3 of a fish sandwich (with ketchup, not tarter sauce) or a
grilled chicken sandwich with bbq sauce (I usually don't eat any of the
bun, just the chicken, lettuce, and tomato. MAYBE, okay, usually, a few
fries (maybe 8 - 10). All from Mickey D's. If you haven't tried their
grilled chicken, try it. It's yummy!
Afternoon: Usually a protein shake (grape flavored) or another piece of
string cheese
Dinner: Maybe a lean cuisine (just about the whole dinner), or a piece of
fish or chicken and a salad, or maybe a Stouffer's stuffed pepper and 1/2
cup or so of pork and beans. Then, maybe a few tootsie rolls or jelly
beans (not everyday, just once/twice/week). Just a few, cause I can dump
at times.
I figure I'm getting about 1000 - 1200 calories/day. Of course, I'm bad
about my caffeine free diet cokes. Yes, I do drink them, but always over
ice with the fizz mostly gone. And I get my other liquids and vits in,
too.
Tammy (or anyone for that matter!), if you don't mind, give me a scenario
of what you're eating. There's not enough info floating around for those
who are consider fairly "long term" post ops. I tried to e-mail
you, but couldn't get it to go through. Thanks and I'll look forward to
hearing from you!
