Question:
How long before you went back to work? (Open RNY)
I have a desk job, most computer and meetings related. I am concerned with how much time I have to take off work. Does anyone have good advice? — Chris S. (posted on March 17, 2001)

I had an open RNY on 8/16/00 and went back to work full time in 3 weeks.
I am a kindergarten teacher. I was really tired but it wasn't that bad.
I have lost 209 pounds in 7 months.

You may feel like returning for 1/2 days at first, somewhere around 3 weeks
post op. Maybe, maybe not. Just listen to your body and take a nap when
your body tells you to. Remember, it is crucial that you don't lift over
10 pounds for about 8 weeks and do no vacuuming or furniture moving either.

I work in an office as well and went back 1/2 time 18 days after my
surgery. Every few days I added an extra 1/2 hour or so and was back full
time at about 6 weeks. My boss was very understanding and told me to go
home whenever I felt tired.

I had the open RNY and I was back to work 6 hours a day on the 9th day. I
didn't feel up to 8 hour days for another week or so. I also had a desk
job and the worst thing was being tired quickly. Also be very careful not
to lift anything over 5 lbs for 2 months.
