Question:
What types of fruit can I eat at 2 weeks post of?
I searched the database and found good answers for RNY's many months or years post-op, but at only two weeks post-op I can begin adding small amounts of fruit to my diet. I was thinking about bananas and cantaloupes for now. I have to avoid seeds and pulp. Any other suggestions? What about dumping? — Kristy J. (posted on February 5, 2001)

Hi There, I was not allowed any fruits or vegatables until 8 weeks post-op,
but from what I have read, most other surgeons allow their patients to have
them sooner, usually around 4 weeks or so. Anyway, The first fruits I
started with were bananas, Or all natural apple sauce. You can possibly add
about a 1/4 of a banana to your protien shake, but I have even heard of
some post-ops using blueberries and strawberries in their shakes pretty
early to. As far as dumping goes, for fruit I have only dumped on raisins.
I beleive cantelope has alot of natural sugar, but you should be able to
have a TINY amount without a problem. I hope this helps you some!!!

My surgeon is very lenient and fast tracks us to real food -- much faster
than any others I've heard of for RNY. BUT, no raw fruits or vegetables
for 4 weeks! After that, I never dumped on fruit.

WE do clear sugar free liquids for 4 weeks, so fruit isn't added until much
later and then, very small qty. If you really want to start solids now,
try slicing a banana and eating a slice, wait 5 min, then eat a slice, wait
5 min. Even half at this point could stretch your pouch too soon, not to
mention the detrimental effect of sugar on your wt loss.

When I was at this stage, I ate fruit in the baby foods. The peaches were
good but pears hurt my stomach. I ate whole bananas several weeks post op
because I know they can hurt the stomach sometimes. So far no problems.
