Question:
I'm 12 months post op and I'm wondering if it's okay to start donating plasma now?

I am 14 months post-op and just asked my surgeon this question yesterday. He said I was fine to donate blood or plasma after 12 months since all my blood work came back normal. You should probably ask your own surgeon as each doctor has different guidelines.

I've been told not to donate whole blood, even if my iron levels are good since it's more difficult for us to get our iron levels back up and there's a chance it could be a problem. I think an apheresis donation (plasma) would be OK though as it doesn't lower your red blood cell level.
