Question:
4 months post op--what is a normal diet

I am 4 months post op and have lost a total of 103 lbs since surgery, so I know I am doing fine, but was wondering what a normal amount of food to be eating at this stage is? I wrote down everything I ate for 2 days, and am getting about 800 calories a day. I s this normal? And how much could you eat at a meal at this stage? Thanks for your help.    — shellyjoel (posted on August 8, 2004)

I don't have an answer, but I would recommend a visit to a nutritionist. Part of my pre-surgery planning is to visit a dietician at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months to be sure I am getting the apprioriate nutrients. Congratulations on your great loss! Wow!

Everyone is different. When I was 4 months out I could only drink 3 ozs of liquid and 2 to 3 ozs of solid food. I over a year post and I drink about 6 oz of liquid at a meal. However, solid food we should never eat more than 4 ozs or 1/2 cup or food per sitting! If you are eating more than that your eating to much.

I had so much touble for the first 3 months, but now I too eat about 800 cals /day. My surgeon would prefer less, but I was too faint to work and unable to exercise or walk much. My surgery was 4/5/04. My GP told me to increase b/c I was so sick on the diet from my surgeon. I think you should eat what you need, and don't worry so much about cals (within reason)Just don't stretch your pouch by eating too much at once. I am still losing, just at a slow and safe rate now. Keep up the good work!
