I would think it would depend on the sugar and carb content.

I love the Atkin's smoothie. Low carbs, sugar, calorie and high in protein.
Taste fab! I use it as a meal on the run.

I bought a smothie machine and make my own. I throw in a little OJ or milk
some fresh fruit like strawberries, rasberries, blueberries, or a banana.
Top is off with a little protien powder and flax seed. It always makes
more that I can drink so I fill up extra glasses put a piece of saran wrap
over the mouth of the glass and secure it with a rubber band and pop the
extra glasses in the freezer. Then when I want one I put the glass in the
refridgerator over night and by the next evening, it is thawed. By making
my own smoothies, I can control the sugar content.

What do YOU mean by smoothie? Each of us seems to have a different
definition. I do not do the commercial ones because they use milk and/or
real fruit juice and that would fatten me up, or make me dump. Or both. I
do make my own at home, using no sugar products, but just protein, water,
ice, sometimes a few hunks of fruit. I never make more than I can drink
within about 30 minutes

My gym has a smoothie bar. The body builder guys get the high
carb/calorie/sugar ones. They also have relatively low carb smoothies,
with less than 20 carbs and less than 10 sugars. All of them have 29g of
protein and just under 200 calories. I have them after my workouts on the
weekends, when I go to the gym after breakfast, then I kinda skip lunch or
just have a light snack as to not add too many calories to my daily amount.
