Question:
My surgeon has me on liquids for another week. I need ideas, any and all are helpful.

I am doing water, crystal light, propel, beef broth, and I am going to be starting tea and clear juice. I just need ideas to get me through the next week. Thanks. Erinn    — Erinn D. (posted on March 1, 2004)

Another liquid you can have is Diet Snapple..o calories, 0 sugar. Personally I add a little water cuz is seems a little sweet to me, but it was good. When I was on liquids, I was also allowed to have Yoplait Light Yogert cuz it basically melts in your mouth so my doctor considered it a liquid. It's also nice cuz a few bites even "fill" you up. Hope this helps a little! Good luck!

WHen I was in the clear liquids stage, I asked a friend of mine to stop at a chinese restaurant and get me a container of the broth from their won ton soup. They only charged a dollar for it and it was WONDERFUL. It tasted so much better than regular borth and made me feel like I was actually eating something. Good luck. You will on to smaller and better things very soon.

I made a modified version of Avgolemono Soup (one of my favorites from a local Greek restaurant - I leave out the rice). It was more flavorful than a lot of the other options available and the addition of egg ups the protein so it is more filling than broth alone. The soup is a creamy lemon yellow when finished as the eggs thicken the broth without creating the stringy egg pieces you get in egg drop soup. 2 qt Chicken broth; strained 2 Whole eggs or egg yolks 2 Lemons; (juice only) 1 t. oregano (if desired) 1 t. parsley (if desired) -Salt Bring the broth to a full boil in a soup kettle. Remove from the heat and keep warm while preparing avgolemono. Beat the eggs for 2 minutes. Continue to beat, gradually add the lemon juice. Slowly add some of the hot broth to the egg-lemon mixture, beating steadily. Stir the mixture into the soup and cook over minimum heat, without boiling, until the soup thickens to coat a spoon. Taste for salt, and keep warm over hot water until ready to serve. Pass the pepper mill at the table for additional zest. (BTW, I added pureed cooked chicken to the soup during the pureed stage). Good luck! Debra

Are you on full liquids because with that we could have strained low fat cream soups. Sugar free jello, popscicles, sugar free pudding all were great. I found I liked hot tea after surgery it felt good on the pouch. Good luck to you....Nancy

My surgeon let us have sugar free fudgecicles for our liquid diet. I have also started buying regular packs of kool-aid in the flavors I like most and adding a quarter cup of Splenda to the pitcher. It is much cheaper than buying the Crystal light and it doesn't have an after taste either. You can add as much Splenda as you like, but I find that if you need a cup of sugar then a 1/4 cup of Splenda will do because it is so sweet. Hope this helps. Good luck with your journey.

I found out that we can have egg drop soup for a liquid diet phaze as long as it's full liquids not clear liquids.

GNC has several protein drinks that are very high in protein. One has 44 g. of protein. Check them out. Soup is also a good idea. Campbells 98% or Healthy Choose are good, add your power milk and skim milk (make sure you strain the bits of chicken or mushrooms.
