I guess you could try them, but I have heard they are awful! and expensive! you are probably better off occasionally having the real thing just in small quanities and not very often.

boy do I agree with Patricia...tho there are those who DO like them, the cost is awful and I think they taste pert-near like dirt. Blech! Is it ok? Sure!

My rule for Atkin's is check the carbs. I found that some "Low" carb food is really not that low. I tried a homemade Atkin's bread and OMG! it was the worst thing I ever ate. One bite and the rest tossed.

I'll never understand WHY people insist on the Atkins Diet when there is one that is so much better, at least in my opinion. It is the Carbohydrates Addict Diet. (http://www.carbohydrateaddicts.com/). In this one you avoid Carbs for two meals and eat them in the third. I found I could resist carbs if I knew I could have them once a day. My doctor (years ago) told me to try the Atkins Diet but I found I'd kill for bread and mashed pototoes. There is no way I'd give them up. Sure, I don't eat them often but the thing is "I can" IF I want. The Atkins is to restrictive. THE CAD is so much more "balanced". I recommend the book "The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet". I never understood my constant being hungry and all the crap I ate (pre op). But this book really opened my eyes. Having said that, I lost my book. I need to buy another and go back on it as a post op. It should be so much easier now. However I will probally do 4-6 mini meals a day instead of three. Good luck. But forget that low carb stuff. You'd be much better off chewing on a tastless piece of cardboard or perhaps a turd. At least the turd would have some flavor (I think). lol Just kidding of course.

I have to agree with Daniel on the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. Much easier to follow and less restricitve. It was the only diet I lost weight on before I had surgery. Atkins is just too time consuming. The idea is to have less than 20 grams of carbs while on induction, then measure every single stinky gram of carbs, slowly up them until weight loss stops. Too much work for me. P.S. I never liked the Adkins products. The only thing I used and found tolerable were the flavored liquids to go in beverages (like coffee). Even then, they are expensive. by the way, congratulations on the great weight loss!

I've tried both Atkins and Carbohydrate Addicts, as well. I couldn't stay on the extremely restrictive Atkins diet (pre-op), and couldn't stomach the taste of most of their products - really gross! Except for the shakes, and a couple of their protein bars. The breads and bread mixes etc., are disgusting. CAD is much easier to tolerate, and like Daniel, I know that I could never completely give up mashed potatoes and some of my other carb favorites. I'm sure it's OK to eat the Atkins products, if you can tolerate them. I would rather eat regular bread once a week, than have Atkins bread every day!
