Question:
I am taking Celexa (liquid) for depression. It tastes like floor cleaner!

Is there any chance that I will ever be able to take it in pill form again (small pill)? I'm 4 weeks post.    — Cathy C (posted on November 10, 2003)

I take Celexa also, I take 60mg (20mg 3times a day). I also tried the liquid. YUCK!!!!! I had a lap band on 10/2/03 and my doc let me start taking 20 mg at 4wks out. You should consult with your doc. The only thing my doc advised was to take them 15 mins apart. Hope this helps Jana in NE Lap Band 270/245/???

I'm on Celexa as well (1 40mg tablet a day). I had LAP RNY surgery on 8/26/03 and while I was in the hospital and for the first two weeks they had me crush my pill. Now I take the pill every day with no problems. They're tiny. My doctor told me its only the big "horse" pills we have to worry about.

Is it the medication or just the size of the pill that is the problem? I was sent home from the hospital taking giant horse pills for my pain medication and I did fine.

I could'nt take big pills pre op, and surely can't now! However the Celexa pills are so tiny. Why are you taking liquid????

Celexa is a very small pill and I was taking it by mouth by day 4 when I was home. Prior to that they were crushing it and putting it in my g-tube. Celexa breaks in 1/2 on top of it, so there is no reason you cannot swallow it! Do pay attention down the road as I just had to have my dose increased at 9 months PO due to apparantly malabsorbing some of it. I had been on a 60mg dose for the past 3 years with excellent control of my depression. I did fine till about 6-7 months PO when I started to notice some changes. It didn't reach it's full impact until 9 months. Now I take 80 mg in the am and I am back to feeling like I have for the past 3-4 years. So just stay tuned into your body and if you notice a change talk with your doc. Strange that now I weight 189 lbs less and I take a larger dose, but as long as it work so be it.

Hi Cathy, I am only 15 days out and I've been taking Celexa in the pill form since I was 8 or 9 days out. So far, so good! I only take 20 mg a day so it was VERY interesting to read about the possible malabsorption. I was wondering about that. Talk to your dr, but if it were me, I would quit that ole' yucky liquid! :)
