Question:
Is Gatorade a bad thing to drink, when water and other products aren't going down...
well. My dietican said it has a lot of sugar and will make me dump, but I've been drinking it for the past week or two and I haven't dumped yet. Gatorade is so good to me, the ther sugar free drinks make me nausea. Plus, the Gatorade has much less sugar than any other regular drink. What do u guys think? — Marian B. Perhaps try Propel. It is made by Gatorade, and has a lot less sugar. It's
what's gotten me through.

I agree with Cosmo: I love the Propel drinks, and also the Fruit2O drinks.
I also love juice, whether it be orange, apple, grape; but I try to limit
these because of the high calorie content.

that's funny that you pointed that out because post-op even water made me
nauseous but PROPEL was heaven sent, went down smooth and was tasty.
Personally, wgile Gatorade and juices might go down nicely, I just didnt
want to waste the calories if the Propel went down just as nicely.
V8-Splashes (diet) went down realy nicely too...... (and NO they dot taste
like regular tomato-ey V8, these are fruity good!)

Gatorade does have alot of sugar in it and while you are not dumping on it
so far, that could change....I've found that dumping can be
inconsistant. For example I've had something before without a problem but
dumped on the very same thing the next time I had it.Propel is a good
choice....Right after surgery it tasted a little too sweet to me so I
diluted it a little. It's also really yummy if you put the bottle in the
freezer for awhile first so it can get slushy.

dumping really isn't the issue and I'm surprised your dietician made it the
issue. Sugar IS the issue - doesn't make me dump either, but why on earth
would you chose to put tons of liquid calories into your body that WILL
slow your weight-loss, maybe even stop it and worse case make you gain
again? It is also loaded with sodium! Please try propel. It takes VERY
much like Gatorade with considerably less sugar and sodium.

Propel is my lifesaver. 10 calories per serving (I think) and tastes just
as sweet as Gatorade. Even my kids are addicted to it! And THAT makes me
happy!

I agree with the concensus that Gatorade is not a good choice. However, I
can't stand Propel, so I offer the following substitutes should you feel
the same way. Early on, I drank water with a squeeze of lemon or lime
juice in it (add a little Splenda if it's too tart), decaf iced tea,
diluted Crystal Light (it was too sweet full strength early on), and
diluted V8. Keep trying until you find a low or no-sugar drink. It's a
dangerous idea to get hooked into a sugared drink.

I also turned to gatorade in the early months as it was the only thing I
could drink in order to get all my fluids in. I informed my surgeon about
drinking the gatorade. He told me that it was ok for me to drink gatorade
as long as I diluted it with water and added a lot of ice to it. Drinking
did not hinder my weight loss one bit and my surgeon supported my drinking
it to get in my daily fluid intake. Lap RNY 1/28/2003 down 110lbs.

My surgeon suggest gatorade for those who can tolerate it. I can't. It
tastes nasty to me and makes me dump badly. I had a bad virus and he
wanted me to drink gator ade and coke (not diet) and I couldn't drink
either. In fact I wouldn't even try the coke because I was addicted to
them pre-op. I settled for regular popsicles and peppermint to get the
sugar my surgeon thought I needed.

If your surgeon is ok with it, then I guess its ok. My concern is starting
out drinking beverages with sugar in it. I think it would be better to get
used to water or find a substitute for it whether its Fruit20, Crystal Lite
or Propel. In the long run, high calorie beverages is what will do you in.

Marian, My surgeon is OK with me drinking Gatorade also. He'd rather I
didn't - but, but something is better than nothing when it comes to
dehydration. I dilute it, 50/50 with water. Good luck to you, Lori
