Well, you aren't gonna like this, but I can't get enough protein in at 4.5
months without a supplement. I buy a chocolate powder protein, put it in
the blender with cold water and a few splenda, and poor it over ice and
drink it through a straw. It's like Nestle's Quik when I was a kid. Gives
me 57grams a day. I've lost 72 pounds since May 14 and no hair loss. Good
luck! (Chicken salad from one deli here in town is the only meat that sets
well with me, and I can only eat about 1/3 cup.)

Since an ounce of protein has about 7 grams of protein (give or take,
depending on the source), you need to get 8.5 to 9 ounces of protein a day,
minimum, to get 60 grams per day. If you eat three meals and two small
snacks each day, it's pretty easy, and never leaves room for those refined
carbs that we should avoid. Something like this would work: breakfast--one
egg (6-7 grams of protein) with 1/2 slice whole grain toast; morning
snack--two ounces of cheese or 1/2 cup cottage cheese (14 grams of
protein); lunch--two ounces of deli meat and one ounce of cheese or 3
ounces of tuna (21 grams of protein), and 1/4 cup vegetable or fruit;
afternoon snack--1/4 cup nuts or 4 ounces yogurt with fruit (5-7 grams of
protein); dinner--the same layout as lunch (21 grams of protein). Your
daily total here is 67 to 70 grams. You just have to plan your entire
day's food ahead of time so that you're sure to get enough in, as there
isn't room for much else (be sure to get some veggie, fruit or whole grain
carbs each day--your body needs them, too). You probably also have to be
at least three months out to eat the size lunch and dinner proposed. If
you can't eat that much at a sitting, then cut back one ounce of protein at
both lunch and dinner, and add a third snack of two ounces of protein (or
cut out 1/2 an ounce at each meal without adding a snack, and you'll still
hit 60 grams).

Hi. How much protein are you supposed to be getting? My goal right now is
50. My final goal will be 65. I went to Walmart and got Dr. Adkin's NEW
carbohydrate gram counter. It is a small pocket sized book and has the
number of carbs, fiber, protein, fat and calories in foods. It is easy to
keep track of the proteins this way. Meats have a lot of protein. In 3oz.
of cube steak there is 27g of protein. In 2% cottage cheese there is 15.5g
for 1/2 cup. Usually I have a slice of cheese and deli meat (turkey or
salami) and that is another 15g. If you only have those 3 meals that is
57.5g. I am supposed to have 6 meals a day so it shouldn't be that hard to
get up to 65. You just have to keep track of the amount of protein and try
to choose higher protein foods. I am keeping a food journal and writing
down everything i eat. Good Luck!

Do you like Tuna? It has a very high amount of protein for a small amount.

Cottage cheese has 13g of protein for 4 ounces and sardines have about 20g
for 4 ounces. I have these foods on a regular basis. I also eat jerky,
nuts, peanut butter, as well as beef, chicken, fish, etc. Salmon is also
very high in protein. Have you tried Detour Bars? WalMart has the smaller
ones that have 15g per bar. Also, I've heard that GNC has a powder that
you can put in any food - and it's tasteless. I haven't tried it but have
heard about it.

I get my protein from my foods. I have never brought any protein drinks.
one cause I can't afford them and also they are just plain nasty to me. and
can't afford to buy them and wind up trashing it cause it's nasty, then
trying another then trashing that also. Anyhow, Im a meat eater and I cooks
my food in my crook pot until it's so tender a baby can eat it. also in the
frist stages of my post-op I used my juicer and just put my cooked meats
into it and juiced it and just dranked the results. I've found that any
other way of cooking my meats would give me tummy pains and it always felt
like it was just sitting there like a rock. so for me crook pot cooking was
the best for beef, chicken, etc. I don't eat pasta, rice, sweets, bread,
potatoes. my wt loss is 140 lbs in 9 months. hang in there.

I sincerely understand your problem! I absolutely COULD NOT get in the
protein I needed early after my surgery. I eventually have found that
using 100% Whey Protein from GNC with 1/2 c. of milk three times a day
works for me. I can actually gulp 1/2 cup of milk and each time it's worth
22 gr. of protein. Good luck!

I know I will probably get slammed for this, but my doctor's instructions
are to drink skim milk with powdered milk added (16 grams protein) between
your meals. This also counts toward your fluid intake as well. I don't do
this because I hate milk and always have, so most of my meals at this point
(5 weeks out) consist of meat/cheese (Deli meat wrapped up with cheese with
added fat-free cream cheese tastes wonderful and loads up the protein). For
those of you that don't agree with my doctor, please, don't slam me, talk
to my doctor. By the way, he has had many patients with awesome results, so
I trust him.

Honestly, in my opinion, you can't. Especially at one month, it would be
just about impossible to eat enough to get 70 grams of protein. And even
if it is possible, it would require such planning and research that I think
it's just easier to rely on two protein drinks a day to make sure you get
your protein in! If I were you, I'd keep trying samples until you find
something you like. My personal favorite is Chocolate Whey Stack with 4-6
ounces of water. It mixes easily when shaken, isn't gritty and doesn't
need to be put in a blender - and it tastes pretty darn good! Another
thing to remember is that the whey protein drinks are pre-digested so the
protein is more likely to be absorbed by your body, whereas only a portion
of the protein you eat will be absorbed.
