My body lift has made me so happy with my weight loss. My doc is www.tedlockwood.com None of my pics are on there, but web site has some stunning results. Good luck with your journey...don't chicken out...take a deep breath and go for it!

I see questions like this...and I get disappointed. People are having WLS for looks - not to cure them of their diabetes, or give them back their mobility, or bring them back to a "normal" life. I can't understand why people think this is the best way to look like a model. I wear my scar proudly, as a badge of my courage - and to remind myself of how far I have come. From a nearly immobile 400# person to where I am today. Too bad your scars don't mean as much to you.

Original poster here. Julie, I'm sorry you're disappointed with those of us who have accomplished our goal and now wish to rid ourselves of flapping aprons, batwings, skin rolls that have perpetual rashes and bleed, etc. Reconstructive surgery seems to be the answer for many of us who are extremely healthy now, have an active lifestyle and find the extra skin getting in the way of our every day lives. Thanks to the others with the awesome website recommendations. Very informative!!

I agree with you. After losing all the weight and feeling healthy again I don't see any thing wrong with taking all that skin off. I have seen the photos of people with very infected rashes from the flaps of folds. It is not a vanity issue and I don't believe everyone does it for looks but it can be a real hygiene and health issue. If someone chooses reconstructive surgery after losing all that weight and we judge them for that we are no better than someone judging us for being to heavy.

The scarring the questioner is speaking of is the scarring from the body lift. Vicki said nothing about her scar/scars from whatever WLS she had. The scarring from a body lift/belt lipectomy is very extensive, and I see nothing wrong with being curious about how the scar actually looks after this particular PS. Thanks for the link to that belt lipectomy page...this has actually confirmed for me that perhaps an abdominoplasty is NOT the way to go, but a circumferential lift or belt lipectomy would produce better results with my particular PS needs. I learn something new from this site every day, so thanks again. <P> I also feel "normalizing" the body with PS after massive weight loss has nothing whatsoever to do with "looking like a model"...who said anything about looking like a model? People have major problems with excess skin, including debilitating rashes that hurt, bleed, and carry an odor, back pain, loss of mobility, and sometimes crushing depression because of the actual deformity that excess skin can cause. I also feel that the WLS world does not address very well the problem of redundant skin after WLS. There's just not that much information out there. Hopefully this will improve in the near future. I also pray we will have more approvals without struggle with our insurance companies for PS, as a final and necessary part for many of us on our WLS journey. Thanks for reading. Hugs, Joy

Chiming my agreement here. So what if there are NO problems like severe rashes? There is nothign wrong with wanting to look your best, either! Julie, you still have a lot of weight to lose. You may change your mind when you're done, believe me, especially if you are single. I'm emotionally ready for a relationship now, and I look pretty good in clothes, but the thought of that first reveal...SHUUUDDER!!!!! And may I say I love my DS scar too, it is such a happy reminder of how much I've lost and gained! (The original poster was asking about PS scarring.)

Hi Vicki, I am almost 2 months out from having a body lift with Dr. Capella. I haven't gotten my post-op picutes developed yet, but I can tell you the results are stunning. The scar is very thin and think it will heal nicely. Look at his website for great examples of what's possible. www.capellasurgery.com. Best of Luck!

I had a lower body lift with hernia repair in February and to be quite honest, I think my scars look great. I have one down the middle of my abdomin that got a little bit wide and the part across my backside but everywhere else is a fine thin line. I got a really good belly button too! There are a lot of pictures in OSSG-plastic surgery in Yahoo groups. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ossg-plasticsurgery/ Just a side note,to Julie, I did not have plastic surgery to look like a model. I had medically necessary reconstructive surgery to address redundant skin after losing 160 pounds. My surgeon removed my 20 pound panniculus to help my mobility and constant back pain. You still have a long road ahead of you.

Wow those are great pictures, Thank You. Julie I went for my consult with the plastics doctor this week. I have severe back pain and a smell that I won't even go into. But he asked me what I wnat I wanted and I said, blah blah blah ect. I also said that I wanted to leave something to remind me where I came from ... He took a deep breath held my hand and said "That is what pictures are for" enought said.
