Question:
Has anyone had continious vomitting
that was not related to a stricture. I am about 3 months post-op and have had one stricture already and was dilated at about 6 weeks post-op. Now, my Dr. says that my stomach isn't contracting properly to push the food through and I have to take a drug called Reglan; however, this medication makes me very restless and jittery. Has anyone had this problem that wasn't related to a stricture but improved on it's own after time. I am vomitting about ten times per day if I don't take the Reglan and I am getting very discouraged. Please help....Thanks — denisel (posted on July 9, 2003)

What are you vomiting? Is there any associated pain? I had the same
problem and was on Reglan for a brief time, but it ended up being a kink in
my intestine and I had to have another surgery to unkink it. I was
vomiting up a brownish nasty liquid and had pain as well.

ORIGINAL POSTER: Linda, I am definately throwing up food. It doesn't
matter what I eat, I will vomit it back up without the reglan and sometimes
even with the Reglan. Did the Reglan help you at all? I can tolerate
liquids but I just couldn't imagine having to stay on a liquid diet
forever. I don't have much pain involved other than when the food is
trying to squeeze through my stoma. Thanks for your help and I'm sorry
that you had to go through another surgery. I sure hope this can be fixed
without that.

Hi Denise, I am now 5mths post-op and I had the same problem with anything
I ate or drank. I threw up every time all day long for about 2-3 weeks
until my doc found out thru doing an endoscopy that I had aicd build up in
the back of my throat that was making me not able to swallow or drink
anything so he put me on nexium to see if that would help, and sure enough
it has. So I still continue to take that until he says stop which might be
never. But just a pill helps so please do not get discouraged! Take care

Hi It's me again I forgot to tell ya that now I can eat more solid foods
than before not being able to eat even soft foods without puking! I have
hard times with diff things sometimes still but everyone has some probs
with eating diff things sometimes still, but with the medicine I am taking
now helps out sooo much, so I believe it will get better for you and you
can start eating other things prob soon! Just keep on taking your med-k!
and if it is that much of a prob then tell your doc to see if he can switch
to something else.

Thanks Melodie, It sure helps to hear of people who have been through
similar circumstances but have been successful in the end. I'm glad that
you are doing better now. Take care and thanks again!
