Question:
Is it safe to have watermelon at 4 mths post op? (RNY) I haven't had any melons
since the surgery and would like to partake during the 4th. I will follow yall's advice. I wasn't able to reach my nutritionist today to ask her. Thanks — Ann B. (posted on July 2, 2003)

I am just a little past 7 wks and my diet that I am on says that I can have
melon, but to watch out for the seeds. Try the seedless watermelon to be
safe.

My surgeon's food list said melon is okay to try at 8 weeks. I have found
small pieces of cantaloupe, watermelon, and honeydew go down easily and
stay down. At 12 weeeks added berries and peaches--berries much easier
than even white peaches to digest.
Surgeon said at visit last week--Enjoy the summer fruit. And I have, with
her blessing.

Watermelon has been a life-saver for me. I am 3 months post-op and have
been having it for over a month now. My nutritionist said that it was
fine. It is water-packed so it quenches my thirst with a little extra
flavor! This is what I have craved more than anything. I was worried
about the carbs but my nutritionist said that it is mostly made up of water
and just to make sure that I get protein in first. Also to watch out for
the seeds - I buy seedless! I have truly not been hungry yet but
watermelon is one of the few things that appeal to me. But please, try to
get protein in first and foremost. Good Luck!

been eating watermelon, cantaloupe and an occasional bite of honeydew since
about 3 months postop - no problems. But don't panic if your poo turns red
from it :>)

ENJOY! I'm just over 3 months post op and have watermelon all the time.
It's mostly water and the sweetness is refreshing. Happy 4th of July!!

I was cleared for ALL fruit at 6 weeks post-op. I adore melons. But be
careful with watermelon; it's easy to eat too much. Because it is so
watery you can easiy eat more than you really need calorie-wise. I would
suggest cutting a small piece for your self and limiting it to that.
Enjoy.
