Question:
6 Weeks Post Op, Is Citrus Okay?

I haven't tried citrus fruits yet but I have read from others on this site
that we should be very careful eating things like grapefruit and oranges.
Peel the membranes off. They could plug your pouch and are very hard to
digest.

My surgeon told me no citrus ever again. Check with your surgeon to see
what he says.

Daphne~
Congratulations on your surgery and recovery! I am 6 months post-op and
enjoy oranges as often as I can get my hands on the good juicy ones! For
the first couple of months, my tummy couldn't handle the acid. At about 3
months, I tried an orange and cut all the rind off, including the outer
membrane so there was nothing left but juicy tender fruit. No Problems
& it was delicious! I can now peel and eat the oranges just like
pre-op. Just pay attention to your tummy and always start with tiny bites
to see how you are going to do with new foods. If it's uncomfortable this
time, wait about a month then try again! Enjoy! (Open RNY 1/3/03, 100 lbs

Hi Daphne, I have been eating oranges since I was 2 months out. I do make a
point to chew really well and just enjoy the taste. I love orange juice but
it was too sweet so now I can only handle real oranges, just take it slow
and enjoy them. Good Luck. Teena(RYN 4/8/03~down65#)

I was cleared to eat any fresh fruit or vegetable at 6 weeks post-op. What
does your surgeon say? It is important to follow his recommendations.

I am 4 1/2 months post-op and have had no problems with lemons or oranges.
I have not tried grapefruit yet. Good luck!!
