Question:
Do you know of any soy-free low carb protein bars?
Most protein bars have a soy base, and I am allergic to soy. I'd like to find a decent-tasting one that is soy-free (if such a thing exists!) for a quick on-the-go meal option. Thanks :o) — Jessica B. (posted on June 26, 2003)

Jessica, I've tried all the bars that my local Walmart sells, and a few
from GNC. I've been sticking with Zone Perfect Bars. I like them all except
the Yogurt ones. They have about 15-16g Protein, and about 22g Carbs. Maybe
not as low as you'd like on the carbs, but they're not terrible I guess.
Anyway, I think they're pretty tasty. - Autumn

I highly recommend Detour bars. They taste just like Snickers but have 30g
of protein, 25g of carbs, 12g of which is sugar. I can't eat a whole one
at one time. They have whey protein, which is milk-based, and NO soy. You
can order them online at www.detourbar.com.

Autumn and others, you may not be aware of it, but the main ingredient in
The Zone Perfect bars is SOY (Soy Protein Nuggets (Isolated Soy Protein,
Rice Flour, Malt, Salt). Detour bars and UTurn bars
also have soy in them. The main ingredient is whey protein, but they also
have soy protein isolate. I found very few bars that are No Soy - Elve8
Me has no soy, but is high in carb (38 carbs to 19 proteins), Pure Protein
Bars also has no soy (9 carbs to 33 protein). Those are all I've found,
but I'm sure there are others - you just have to hunt for them. Good luck!

The previous poster is right - the Detour/U-Turn (and presumably the new
OneWay) bars have soy in them in the form of Soy Lecitin in the Chocolate
coating and Soy Protein Isolate in the inside of the bar itself...JR

i am not sure if it is soy-free but the best tasting bar, in my whole
protein bar experience (and i am hard to sell) is a bar called Odyssey. it
really is kinda like a snickers, the closest thing to a good tasting
protein bar, i have had. if i had one here, i would check if it had soy-
but i don't... GNC carries them.

Unfortunately, The Odyssey protein bars have soy in them too :>( It's
easy to check - just go to www.google.com and put in the name of any
protein bar and nutrition for a search. I did Odyssey nutrition and came
up with a link to this: INGREDIENTS: Protein Blend (whey protein isolate,
casein, milk protein concentrate, soy protein isolate</>,
calcium caseinate)...with less companies depended on soy. My daughter is
sensative to it as well. sigh...

I meant I WISH more companies wouldn't depend on soy lol. And why on earth
