Question:
Pain after taking calcium citrate
I just started taking my calcium pills (I am almost 11 weeks post-op). I get a stomach ache that lasts for about 2 hours. It feels as uncomfortable as the Iron did when I took it after just 4 weeks. Any suggestions? — Kendra S. (posted on May 13, 2003)

Try the Twin Labs chewable calcium citrate. They taste a bit like
sweet-tarts so I think of them as my candy. Chew 4 a day.

I can't take calcium citrate without opening up the capsule and putting it
in my protein shake. Otherwise the same thing happens to me. The capsules
I take I get from vitalady.com and each is 500 mg so I do 3 in 3 shakes a
day for a total of 1500 mg. If you're taking capsules, try putting them in
a shake or some sort of liquid (it is tasteless in my shake). If in pill
form try putting the pill in a baggie and crushing it with a hammer or a
spoon and sprinkling it on some sort of food (I don't know if it has a
taste or not but I guess you can find out.). That should help. Good luck
and God bless!

Have you tried taking it with food? I take once calcium pill with
breakfast: scrambled egg, and the other after dinner, and no problem with
stomach aches.
