Question:
I NEED IDEAS FOR CRUNCHY FOODS
I need some ideas for crunchy foods to replace those chips that I'm so addicted to. Can someone give me some good ideas besides carbohydraded ones? Thanks — Peggy D. (posted on May 13, 2003)

Almonds. I love almonds. They really satisfy the crunchies.

I love turkey pepperoni, nuked. Put it on a paper towel and microwave for
1 1/2 minutes. It gets crunchy. It's high protein, low fat and tastes
great.

Try Soy Crisp snacks(kind of like a cracker...ranch flavor is the best),
carrots, apple, cucumbers, salad, turkey bacon(98% fat free kind), turkey
jerky, and if you want some carbs try to buy crackers instead of chips in
the reduced fat version but be careful they can really slow down your
weight loss. Wendi Open RNY 9/19/02 down 121 lbs

Peggy,
There's really not allot that's cripsy that non cabohrydrated, one that did
come to mind, take a slice of cheese put it in the micro wave, let it cool
for about 30 seconds, it's going to start to bubble and stick to the plate,
make sure it's a glass plate, and use cooking spray on it before hand..
Once the cheese is done bubbling and what not take it out, let it cool
down, and wham,. it's crispy ... and protein to boot... Something I've
tried.....
Tastes good when I put a little garlic salt on it before cooking it....
Hope I've helped.,

I recently tried Carb control nacho cheese chips:
For 21 chips: (one serving)
18 g protien
3 g carb
6 g fat
130 cal
tastes ok, and is crispy! the texture is a little weird after you chew it
awhile but ok. You don't notice it as much if you put something on top. I
was a little pricey though but a good treat.

I find that beef jerky is a nice substitute for chips, though it isn't
crunchy. It requires lots of chewing, and is salty like chips. It works
for me!

Not necessarily real low carb but I like to take whole wheat tortilla
shells, cut into 1 inch strips and sprinkle liberally with a variety of
cheeses (I like shredded moz and cheddar). Fry until the shell is crispy
and the cheese melted well. Let cool and crunch away. I can't eat many of
them and it kills the need for chips. I also love peanut butter or cream
cheese on celery sticks (remove the strings before-hand) or apple slices.
Crisp cucumbers are a great crunchy food. Can you tell I love veggies?

Sunflower seeds (in the shell) This is my favorite during movies. It
takes time to crack the shell and get the nut, but it takes care of the
munchies. Also, I love yogurt now! I use Dannon Light 'n Fit and add 1
Tablespoon of grapenuts. MMMM Good luck! It takes time to find
"other" snacks, but it's fun to find that the old stuff just
doesn't taste as good. Dana RNY 8/6/02 start 283 down 125 lbs.

CROUTONS!!!!!!!! They are low fat..you can get fat free if you want. Not
too bad on carbs and come in several flavors. I usually get the restaurant
style..they are bigger and not quite as hard (crunchy)..I think they taste
better and are not as hard as a rock.....They work perfectly to replace
chips. Or maybe some air popped popcorn with low sodium salt and butter
buds sprinkled on...
