Question:
What do you pack for lunch?

I am looking for ideas for packing my lunch and snacks for work. I am on "regular foods" and am bored with chicken! Can anyone share what they take to work for snacks (small meals) and lunch? Thanks in advance!    — PJ M. (posted on May 11, 2003)

I always have a quart or two of Crystal Lite (Peach Tea is my favorite, sometimes lemonade), I keep bottled water with me, then, I always pack a can of tuna, some low-fat string cheese, packets of cream of wheat, Dannon Light & Fit Creamy yoghurt, Campbell's "soup at hand" blended tomato or vegetable medley, some cottage cheese, packets of Splenda, packets of Folger's decaf coffee, high-protein bars like Carb Solutions (these have been life savers when I don't find time to eat a high-protein meal..they have 24-25g of protein & very low in carbs). Now, I don't keep EVERYTHING on me. I have a fridge at work, and just bring in replacements as needed. Those all seem to work well when I'm hungry and don't want to make a "wrong choice" by ordering fast food. That doesn't mean I won't order out. I will often have a Wendy's salad (I may eat half for lunch and the other half later in the day...I just make sure I eat the chicken pieces & almonds first, and if there's room, I'll eat some greens), sometimes a small chili. I've heard turkey/beef jerky is tasty too. There are so many great lunch-packing choices. It just depends on your personal tastes. Eat well!

I usually pack a small container with 1/4 cup of grapenuts and i add a Lite 'n Fit Yogurt (yum!) , some cut up strawberries, a small salad made with spring greens, cut up roasted chicken breast, a few dried cranberries and some feta cheese crumbles and a raspberry viniagrette dressing. I also add a small container of cottage cheese for my afternoon snack. I keep a protein bar in my desk for tose just in case situations. Sometimes I take some thin sliced swiss cheese and turkey rolled up instead of a salad.

I always take crystal light, iced tea or a diet pop to drink. I take a protien bar and then whatever food I have left over from the night before or whatever I decide to make. Tunafish, string cheese, yogurt, salads(regular or pasta), PB and crackers, fruit and normal leftover dinners....the list goes on and on :o)Good luck!

Lately I've been big on club sandwiches. I use 1 slice of bread, turkey, cheese and slice of bacon along with a tiny dab of low-fat mayo. It's a pretty lean sandwich (minus the bacon- but 1 slice really isn't bad) and pretty quick to make. Also, I recently discovered that Tyson makes already cooked chicken pieces- single serving. They come in small packages and you can buy leg, breast, wing, etc. They're a little pricey- but one breast can give me two servings and is honestly the best chicken I've eaten! I love it.

I usually take the 3 oz packages of tuna. It tastes great plain or with crackers, or even mixed with a green salad. One package has 23 g of protein so in my mind that is a good amount. I usually always have a bottle of propel as well.

Wow, you all have such great ideas. I guess the "key" is plan ahead. That's where I have a problem. I don't plan ahead and then I end up grabbing something that's a no-no. I'm glad this question was asked. I'm not the original poster, but thanks for the great answers anyway.

I take several things in my lunch pack.... I buy individual 1 oz packs of beef jerky from Costco and throw one in and I also found some granola bars with only 4 grams of sugar at costco.I add a yogurt always Light n Lively fit and what ever is left ov er from dinner the night before. Of course there is water i keep a case in my trunk at all times, then I just have to grab one as i go into work, I also found lipton tea sweeten with splenda and i take 20 oz bottle of that and SF Koolaid 20 oz so I have variety, I seemed to get bored the most with my drinking, so I have to improvise so i will meet the 64 oz requirement. ANd I always thros in a baggie of nuts (Walnuts/Pecans)whatever I have on hand. I haven't been able to tolerate PB since surgery or I would get those PB cracker, and of course I have those3 oz tuna kits on hand at all times. That's all I can think of right now, but if you think about it, there's a lot to choose from.....Cinde Shaw

Lunch or snacks: tuna w/gourmet mayo and tomatos; mozarrella cheese balls and tomatos; turkey pepperoni (nuke it for 45 seconds for crunchiness!), with a handful of goldfish crackers; protein cookie with low-fat yogurt; soups; chili with cheese & green beans; fruit; turkey jerky; tofu cheese.
