Question:
I need no fridge <100 calorie protein snacks...any ideas?
I often head out for the day around 12:00 p.m. after having lunch. I won't return until dinner time and will spend most of that time walking at the beach, driving to errands, etc. I need non-refrigerated high protein items with less than 100 calories. Nuts are 200 cals, protein bars (the ones I like) are 150, etc. Any other ideas? Thanks, guys. P.S. I'm 7 weeks post op and eat any type of protein except meat. Thanks a million! — msmaryk (posted on May 7, 2003)

Get a mini cooler with ice packs (the kind that are plastic and you can put
in the freezer each night). and put in Some pure protein cans. Or just
don't eat as many nuts, or 1/2 the bar etc.

how about roasted soy nuts, they do not need refrigeration, peanut butter
and crackers, soy chips, or protien chips (wlssucess.com sells them)protien
balls (equall parts protien powder, dry milk, peanutbutter and ghaham
cracker crumbs or rice crispies, any cereal made out into balls)i'd carry a
little lunch cooler and have something good!

Try beef jerky. The kind I like is 80 calories a serving.

Turkey jerky is also good. So are some protein bars (as you know) and
protein cookies (protocookie.com) -- personally, I wouldn't worry if
they're over the 100-calorie mark unless it's because they have too many
carbs (or fats or sugars) for the protein value. But, you can always eat
half a bar or cookie and save half for later if you want to stretch them
out. Some folks also use protein shakes, shaking them up in old Snapple
bottles with water (that's even too fanatical for me, though!).

You could also try cheese sticks. Cheese is supposed to be eaten at room
temperature according to food network anyway...so it might be a good
option!

I'm not sure if you consider fish as meat, but Starkist makes take along
packets. They come with mayo and relish, but you can just eat the little
can of tuna. The only other thing I can think of is peanut butter. Let me
know what else you find.

Original poster here. Hi, Sarah. Thanks for the tuna suggestion. And
thanks for the soy nuts suggestion, too (forgot who suggested
that..sorry). I do eat fish, just can't get the meat to stay down yet,
although I'd love a steak!! ; 0 Thank you all!!

Oh good, since meat may be an option for you in the future you may want to
try these beef nuggets they sell at Wal-mart. They are like beef jerky but
more tender. Speaking of Wal-mart they also have peanut butter filled
pretzels, not sure on the nutritional value of those, though. I'm going to
be taking a week long class that meets all day so I'm trying to figure out
my meal and snacks for that time.

I know y'all (pun intended) find this hard to believe, BUT WalMart is NOT
everywhere!!! ; ) Long Island (where I live) has a population of
approximately 5 million. And there's only 2 WalMarts and they just got
here in the last 2 years. Furthermore, these WalMarts are not the Walmarts
you guys are talking about. I've been to many a WalMart in the South.
These are VERY scaled back. No food, no guns, no hunting stuff, no plants.
But, I'll look for the beef nuggets there. Thanks, Sarah and ALL!!! : )

Mary, they are usually by the checkouts. I also saw some beef nuggets at
Kroger today, but they were a lot more expensive. Sorry I guess Wal-marts
are really taking over society:) My town actually just got one last year
and people protested it from before the ground was even broken.
