I'VE BECOME A CARB ADDICT AND AM TRYING TO CONTROL IT. HOW MANY CARBS SHOULD I BE HAVING? I AM 1-YR POST OP. — Peggy D. (posted on May 7, 2003)

I am 11 months out. I dont count carbs but I log all of my food on
fitday.com. I make sure that my carb intake is less than 40% of my total
calories which are usually about 1200. I also only eat good carbs such as
fruit, veggies, and whole grain products. Hope this helps! Mary, lap rny

I'm also 11+ months out, and also track my food on fitday.com. While
losing, I tried to keep my protein grams ahead of my carb grams. Now that
I'm at goal, I try to keep them roughly equal (though I let carbs get a
little ahead now and then). To do that, I've always used protein shakes (I
do eat protein food, I'm just not THAT crazy about it to eat enough of it).

Hey! I'm also a carb addict. I can't eat ANY refined white flour or white
sugar products. Veggies are usually OK for me, and don't trigger a binge.
If I have to have a carb (other than a veggie), it's a 100% whole grain
one, or some fruit, and I try to eat it later in the day so as not to
trigger a binge. I only eat protein for breakfast, lunch and early snack,
then add some healthy carbs at dinner. If I'm totally off the wagon, I
find it helpful to do three days of "no carb" detox, that is, I
eat protein only. That gets my will power back on track. On those 3 days,
I don't limit how much I eat, just what I eat... lots of meat, cheese,
eggs, protein shakes, etc. Some people can go cold turkey on protein
shakes for three days, but I'm not one of them!
