Question:
Found some great tasting SF CHOCOLATE!

Hi all, I just thought I would share this. I found some great-tasting sugarfree chocolate candies. And yes, they actually taste good. I honestly can't tell the difference. Anyway, they are Russell Stover brand goodies, I found them at a Super Walmart in the candy section. Some in bags and others in small boxes. Anyhoo, they have peanut butter cups, dark chocolate morsels, chocolate with coconut bits, and some wonderful peppermint patties (taste just like YORK peppermint patties), and some Turtle variations. So if some of you need that chocolate FIX every now and then like I do, these are definately the TICKET! Remember, although these gems are sugarfree you still need to remember moderation. Enjoy!!!! ;) Any other good SF candy out there?    — Laurel C. (posted on May 4, 2003)

I've tried these too and they are good. I do have a warning about them. They are made with one of the sugar alcohols, which can cause diarrhea. Most sugar free candies are made with sugar alcohols. Look for any ingredient that ends in 'itol' (maltitol, sorbitol, lactitol). Proceed slowly with these. How much people can tolerate is, like everything else, an individual thing, but nearly everyone will get diarrhea from these if they eat too much. I try to keep my consumption to one or two pieces a day when I have them, which isn't every day.

I'm with Gar on this one. I LOVE the Hersheys s/f dark chocolate bars but I have found that I can only have 2 max before I get sick as a dog. I also cant have them everyday. So I treat myself to 1 once or twice a week only. The good news is that small amount is all I need for my candy fix not the whole bag like in my pre-op days. Take care. I must be a picky chocolate eater! I tried both the Russell Stover's peanut butter cups (dry to me) and the Hershey's Chocolate bars w/ almonds (yuck, yuck, yuck). I am a fan of the Pure DeLite bars, they are like gourment sugar free to me! Plus I like the idea of only picking up 1 or 2 little bars at once. If I buy chocolate by the bag, I'm heading into dangerous territory. Fannie May also makes WONDERFUL sugar free candy, caramels to die for! And those are only allowed a couple of pieces at a time, when at an out of town mall. JMHO of course. - Anna

I found some great tasting sf choc at Rite Aid. It's Hersey bite size bars and Reese peatnut butter cups and they both taste like the full sugar ones. They are a new thing so I bet you could find them anywhere. Hope you like them and good luck!

I looked at some yesterday and read the labels. very high in carbs and with a warning these are not a low calorie food. I also read on here that some of the docs are forbidding them.. Be careful. My mouth watered but I laid them back down. Too much like the old habits that I am trying so hard to break. I was afraid I would eat the whole bag!!!!

Am I the only one who finds the sugar-free candies to be ultra-sweet? I think the regular tastes less sweet (which is odd huh?)...oh well. I do like the cream saver sugar-free hard candies. They last a long time and kill my craving for sugar.

I try to stay clear of that sugar free candy from Russell Stovers. It is loaded with fat and I don't get anything beneficial from it. I've been eating a half a detour bar to get my candy bar fix. They are pretty big so half really makes me feel like I'm getting something. I don't dump with them and a half of one is only about 4g sugar, 5 g fat, 150 cal and 15g of protein. They taste just like a snickers bar. http://www.dpsnutrition.net/product_information.asp?number=NN092&back=yes&dept=1077&last=1077
