Question:
My nutritionist did not see me prior to leaving the hospital, and I need guidelines

I was allowed to check out of the hospital before the nutritionist came to see me to talk about my post op diet. I am now 8 weeks out, eating regular food. Sometimes, I feel I am eating too much, and other days too little. To give you an example, yesterday for breakfast I had a protein shake (30 grams), for lunch I had about 3 oz. of tender pork chops and salad. For dinner, I had 1 piece of bread w/ peanut butter and a little preserves. Can someone please share nutrition ideas and information with me to help me make the right food choices? Thanks!    — PJ M. I realize you're already 8 weeks out, but my surgeon has a three page diet, tailored to specific time frames for post surgery, where the foods for each phase after recovery are supposedly just right for your pouch... if you'd like it, you can email me and I'd be happy to forward a copy to you.

Call the nutritionist--I'm sure he/she would be happy to help you out.

I agree with the previous poster- each md's protocol is different - I was still doing only soft foods @ 8wks out. I don't think that what you are eating is not correct or too much, but it would probably make you more at ease to check with your md's staff just to be sure. Good luck. Jean

As everyone said, each nutritionist and doctor's guidelines are different. I was still on soft foods as well at 8 weeks. I was eating things like eggs, cheese, soft deli meats (turkey and chicken) yogurt, fish, pnb, beans, etc. But I also had a list of foods per month to go by, so it helped out alot! I think you need to eat more though- 2 solid meals and 1 protein shake probably isn't cutting it! I would do 4 or 5 small meals in addition to 1 or 2 protein shakes. Better for you and you'll probably lose even more weight faster! Goodluck to you!

You are on the right track. You might need to add another protein shake maybe at the end of the day. For me nutritionalist set my daily protein intake between 70-75 grams per day. But she set a friends grams at less than mine, maybe because she weighed less than me. I don't know. It is different for everyone. Check with her/him.
