Question:
Question on OVEREATING

As much as I don't want to, there are times when I DO seem to overeat. I hate that uncomfortable feeling. I have never vomited from overeating and I can't MAKE MYSELF vomit either. So I was wondering if drinking water after overeating will help flush it thru quicker to get rid of that overfull feeling. Any answers? And I DO know that it's best NOT to overeat but there are those times when old habits come back when something is just too good so please no lectures about the danger of overeating. Been there. Hello Peggy, I can relate to that feeling. One of the reasons the surgery was such a good idea for me was my over eating. I still tend to put too much food in me and as a result every once in a while I still get sick. I tried drinking water because I thought it would alleviate the feeling, but it just made it worse. I found the best thing to do if I suddenly realize I have overeaten is to try and focus on something else and get up and walk slowly... after some time that seems to help me. Good luck, Sharon

I am about 7 weeks out and have tried drinking even a half hour after eating until I get the full feeling and know that this does not work. I agree with the other poster the best thing I have found is to walk. Good luck.

That happens to me too and I the only thing I can figure out is that I am eating too fast at times. I say this because I measure everything I eat and the same amount of food that goes down easy one day is killing me the next. You could simply be eating too fast. It makes me throw up and then I am fine but the pain that precedes it is awful. Try slowing down. You will also sense fullness more readily if you are going slower. Good Luck!

Whenever I have overeaten and get that pouch pain, water only makes it worse. Try papaya extract (GNC carries it)-chew three of them, it helps with digestion. Something that helps for future-put less on your plate-it helps to prevent overeating to begin with. I'm still working on that one.

Your pouch is like a plugged drain, when too much food is in. Has to slowly pass through. Putting water on top, will just sit there and make you feel worse.

I've overeaten to the point of real discomfort maybe 3 times in the past 9 months, and each time I recall it being during a holiday meal! I have found that no matter if it's caused by overeating or eating something that didn't agree with me (a Detour bar, the peanuts...ouch!), if I wait an hour or 2 before trying to drink ANYTHING, it works out much better. Then I like to have a cup of Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea, caffeine free and yummy made with Splenda. If you sip the tea you'll gradually wash things through, kinda test the tummy. The peppermint also soothes the tummy so nicely. Been drinking a cup or 2 a day since I became a post-op! I won't scold you on the overeating. We've all done it, just try to limit these episodes. Good Luck - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -123lbs.
