Question:
Anyone with experiences taking Effexor XR post op? It was prescribed for me yesterday

and my physician is aware of my WLS status (I'm 4 months post op)and even though it's in capsule form he assures me it will breakdown normally in my system since my surgery was proximal. Any personal experiences with this drug? Thank you ! Elizabeth Lap Rny Dr.Foote 12-13-02 286/192    — E M. (posted on April 18, 2003)

Hi Elizabeth, I am seven weeks post op. I have taken the Effexor XR capsules since the second week out. No problem! Best of luck to you! Terri

Hi Elizabeth, I have been on Effexor XR for about 4 years now. I had wls on 11/7/02 and it continues to work as always. Believe me, I can certainly tell a difference if I miss a dose. Good luck and God Bless.

Hi, I was on Effexor first and then got switched to the extended release form. 75mg. day and 75mgs. evening. I did notice that some times I would get a burning sensation at the top of my stomach and only if I did not have least have a small piece of bread in my tummy. I was told that you should take it with food if it bothers you. I also noticed that my doses had to be 'played with' to get it right as I lost weight. This was difficult for my doctor since I am BiPolar and what clinicians call an "ultra rapid cycler". Too much of the antidepressant sent me into mania, 2 little sent kept me down--did nothing for the depression. My cocktail consisted of effexor XR and Topamax (mood stabilizer). I'm now med free and have incorporated Fish Oil tablets (for my Omega 3's) and CO Q10 into my vitamin supplement mix. I feel wonderful!
