Question:
Has anyone else experienced constant nausea and dry heaves?
I am 2 months post-op and am sick from the minute I wake up usually until the time I go to sleep. I have been out of work for 2 months because of this, I get very violent dry heaves every day weather I have eaten or not. I am very careful of what I eat because I thought I was dumping but it is constant all day nausea. I never vomit but sometimes I do spit up clear fluid. My doctor says that it is uncommon but does occur. I need to go back to work soon, and was wondering if anyone else had this problem and how long it lasted? — Skyy B. (posted on April 16, 2003)

I am 7 weeks post op and I have had this problem as well. I went to my
doctor who ordered an upper edoscopy (spelling) and opened the outlet to my
intestines. That helped greatly. He also put me on the anti nausea pill
zofran and I have been GREAT. My weight loss has continued and I can get
most of my water down. (still struggling with that) ask your doctor about
an upper EDG and the pill. Hope this helps.

It was something that I struggled with until I was about 3.5 months post
op...I still get it occasionally, but it has gotten better. It was
something that I just learned to deal with...I hope that things improve for
you!

I'm 4 weeks post op. Not nauseas, not vomitting. Never have been and I
was released on soft food. The ONLY time I do get nauseaus is if I drink
too fast. I'm very luck! Thanks, Dr. Roslin.

It sounds like you need to be on an anti-nauzea medication like Zofran.
Check with your surgeon. Are you still having bowl movements and keeping
fluid down? If not, you could have an abstructed intestine. I developed
this at about 7 weeks out of surgery. There could also be a problem with
your gallbladder. Call your surgeon and if he won't listen, call your PCP.
Sometimes getting a second doctor involved is all it takes to get some
action.

This sounds exactly like me...I was 3 weeks post op when it started...ended
up back in the hospital with a newly formed ulcer....they found it after a
Ct scan and Scope...new med's working wonders....one week and feel much
better!!
