Question:
Are tostadas and tortillas ok at six weeks out?
I so need to crunch and this afternoon I had a tostada for lunch. I had fat free refried beans, low fat cheese, tomatoes, and soem low fat sour cream and I was able to almost eat a whole one. I experienced no pain or discomfort from eating too much. Now, I just had five torilla chips with salsa as a snack and that seems to be going down fine. So, am I ok? Are these things normal to eat? I eat chicken and beans non stop so I am in heaven with the crunchy torillas. Anyway, any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks — Red T. (posted on March 21, 2003)

I say as long as you feel alright it should be fine. Just watch the carbs
because it can slow down your weight loss later down the road. Also, just
because you can eat it today doesn't guarantee you will be able to eat it
next week. It's a strange thing, our pouches..Best of luck!!...Karen (lap

I think you should be just fine. Just make sure to chew those crunchy
things really well. It's good that you are adding protein to them too. I
love tacos, tostados and chips with a dip I make with ff re-fried beans,
salsa, ff cream cheese and lf cheddar cheese. Good luck to you!

I am 9 weeks post-op lap rny and I have been eating these things since 6
weeks. The chips at 4 weeks, just chew well. Every dr. is different on
here as to what they tell their patients to do, mine encourages his
patients to not eat fat free cheese and things of this nature because he
says our bodies need fat to a certain degree. I have lost 53 lbs. and I
have not eat fat free yet, but you do what your dr. tells you to do.
Sounds like you are doing well. Good Luck to you!

I was told that any food that dissolves or breaks down in water is
considered a soft food. Potato chips don't - they just get soggy, but
tortilla chips do. Just chew well and you should be fine.

That sounds fine. I agree with the previous poster- watch the carbs if you
are just eating the chips and salsa, b/c that really would be a snack, not
a meal since there's no protein. But when you add beans or beef and cheese,
etc. on a couple chips- that is an excellent way to get some protein. And
you will notice that 5 chips or so only has 10grams of carbs- really not
that bad. Goodluck to you!

Hi! I just thought I might add that if you happen to eat a soft flour
tortilla, make sure you chew like there's no tomorrow! These do not break
down well at all in the pouch, and even one small unchewed piece can cause
a world of misery! I learned this, the hard way! :) Good Luck!
