I don't worry about the carbs. Which, I am sure, is not a popular view. I
count calories and protein, making sure I get in all the protein. I have
been successful thus far at losing close to 100 pounds in six months. I can
state that I have had most success without reading the scale. At the
beginning I was behind everyone else, but I have consistently lost 10% of
my excess weight each month and actually "caught up" to people
who had lost more initial weight. I try to stay at approximately 700-900
calories a day right now. I eat smaller portions but more often. This
seems to work for me. Good luck with your weight loss.

I will tell you from experience that I did not lose one ounce for nearly a
month and i cut my carbs in half and the weight started falling off even
though I maintained the same # of calories. You may have to adjust the
numbers as you go along to find what works best for you. Your nutritionist
can give you an idea of where to start though.
