Eating grains (or carbs of any kind) will keep you from getting into
ketosis. You need to eat protein, meat, fish, eggs, cheese, etc. If you
eat anything with carbs or sugar, you will not get into ketosis. If you
haven't already, you can purchase ketostix at your local pharmacy, or
metabostix (not sure where, I've just seen them advertised) They are pee
sticks. the matobostix are just a yes or no, you're in ketosis. The
ketostix will show you how deeply you're in ketosis, by how dark the color
purple is on the stick, if it's tan or pale purple, up your protein and
decrease your carbs or sugar... if it's dark purple, you're doing great.
good luck

I kept my carbs down to 40 or so a day and I had ketosis. Totally
eliminating carbs is not necessary and (to me) would be a pain in the butt.
Literally if you are prone to constipation like me! ;) Make the carbs you
DO eat count by eating whole grains and fruits that are high in fiber.
Strawberries have a pretty low carb count and are high in fiber. Plus they
taste good AND it's just about strawberry season--they'll be cheap and
fresh!

Hi! Ok, first of all...you do NOT need to totally eliminate
carbs to get into ketosis. The best foods for inducing ketosis
are those that are basically all protein with almost nothing
else in them. Examples would be egg whites, lean poultry, lean
red meat, fish, etc. Foods that are mostly protein, like low-fat
dairy products, etc, are also pretty good. For carbs, just make sure
you eat carbs that have a lot of fiber (like whole grain oats, corn,
vegetables, etc).
Avoid: sucrose, fructose (fructose is metabolized to fat the fastest of all
sugars), glucose,
and maltose, "white" carbs like wonderbread, donuts, pasta, etc.
And avoid any high protein
item with a lot of carbs (like ice cream). Of course, if you are
physically active, you will need more
carbs to fuel your brain. (an interesting fact for ya...humans can't make
blood glucose from fat. They can only make it
from protein. Since your brain uses blood glucose for fuel, your body uses
protein from your diet to make blood
glucose and uses the fat to fuel muscles with ketone bodies. Plants CAN
make glucose from fat...lucky them, ever seen an MO plant?? :)
Good luck to you!
