Question:
Plastic Surgery Coverage- Wondering about Private Insurance?

I'm going to be having WLS and it will be covered by medicare. I also have an oppurtunity to obtain BCBS insurance next year. My question is, does anyone know if there is a chance that BCBS (or any private insurance for that matter) might cover the plastic surgery issues afrer surgery? Or would it be considered a pre exisiting condition, and therefore not covered, even if it was proven medically necessary?    — Goodgirl (posted on February 27, 2003)

It's only a pre-existing condition if you were seen or treated by a doctor prior to the effective date of coverage for that. It's highly doubtful you would be going to a plastic surgeon before you've even had WLS. Your not even going to know if your going to have any excess skin after surgery!!
