Question:
Has anyone ever tried to dump on purpose?
Just to see what it feels like? I'm Pre-op (april 1) and was just wondering if anyone has done that. Just to know what it feels like. — KellyJeanB (posted on February 19, 2003)

I fail to see any reason why someone would consciously try to dump. I stay
away from the concentrated sugars because I am afraid that I will be one of
those 30% of RNY post-ops that DON'T dump. That fear of not dumping has
served me well through 7 months. I know that I dump (so to speak) on
high-fat foods like regular mayonaisse and I stay away from things that are
high fat because of it...JR (open RNY 07/17 -152 lbs)

I'm with John - I'm afraid to find out I don't dump so I've never pushed
it. 7 months down 92 pounds closing in on the century club and no longer
being morbidly obese.

There was one guy in our support group who ate pure sugar until he dumped
to see what his tolerance was. Some kind of load-testing??? I couldn't
believe it. He was also the one that wanted to know (at 3 weeks out) when
he could have an ultimate cheeseburger. Geez, doesn't sound like a success
waiting to happen, does he? I hope he did better later. I admit to testing
my limits: One Riesen candy didn't make me dump . . . Can I have two?
NOOOOOO But the more you push your limits the farther out those limits get.
Pretty soon even if you did start out dumping you won't anymore. Not worth
the risk!

Oh, and you'll most likely dump accidentally on something you thought was
"safe." Some things have hidden sugars, in particular tomato
sauces and tomato soup. My first dumping experience was from tomato soup
and I had no clue that was what was happening.

My one and only dumping experience (as far as I know) was with the deep
fried jalapeno poppers - not pretty, and not something I want to relive!
So...in answer to your question, no.

When I was about 2 weeks post op, I was making Christmas cookies for the
kids, and just licked the spoon with dough. I didn't even think about it,
and the next thing I know, I'm in the bathroom feeling like I wanted to
die. It wasn't fun. Unfortunately, I've also semi-dumped on protein drinks
with stevia. I think most of us dump on accident at some point, there's no
point in seeking it out. It will find YOU! LOL!

Thanks for your answers. I was just wondering. I don't want anyone to
think I would dump on purpose. And i've already resigned myself to a life
without Burger King.. LOL. I'm not going to push any limits. I promise .

Well, I wouldn't say I *tried* to make myself dump, but I have eaten things
I've craved (Mostly a bite or two of chocolate or a cookie) and I don't
think I dump. From what I've heard, it's a horrible, horrible feeling, and
when I eat things that are too sugary, I just get sort of tired and want to
nap. If I can, I'll take a short nap and I wake up feeling fine, but I've
never had severe cramping, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. If I can't take a nap,
then I just have to be tired for a while and it eventually goes away. Does
this happen to anyone else, and do you know what it is? Is it like
pseudo-dumping? lol

No I haven't dumped on purpouse. I wouldn't recammend it either. Making
yourself throw up is never good for you!! Only if you swallow something
poison you do that. It can lead to very bad habbits such as bulmia!! And
the acid from throw up can eat lineing in your trouit and eat the the outer
layer of your teeth!! So please do not ever try it!!

I've eaten things that I thought would make me dump & they didn't,
& then eaten things that made me dump when I thought they wouldn't.
Weirdo body!
What does it feel like...y'know that feeling when you have the runs &
you're sweating like mad, & have to take off all your clothing in the
bathroom, behind stuck to the toilet, but darnit, it's got to come of or
you'll die, & you wanna vomit & poop at the same time? That's what
dumping feels like to me. It sucks. Big time.

Kelly Jean, I can't imagine why ANYONE would want to "dump on purpose
just to see what it feels like"!! How unthinkable!!I dumped early post
op ONLY ONCE, as a result of not taking my time to eat. Not a good thing!!
I had to learn to take my time and eat slow. It made a believer out of me
REAL QUICK!!
