I am also the same way 13months post op- I dont really measure, but I try to gauge a certain amount, and only eat that, but eat 6-8 times a day....that way you are never hungry, wont pig out and the weight will continue to fall off... I keep it to 1/2 cup at a time.

There are 3 keys to maximizing weightloss - 1. protein, 2. Water, 3. Exercise. Get at least 60 gm of protein daily (I drink 2 protein shakes - you can only use about 30 gm at a time), drink 64 oz of water, minimum, daily. Exercise for 1 hour at least 5 days a week - start with walking and add some weight training once you are cleared to lift. Muscle burns more calories than fat, so building muscle will help you burn more calories.

Your smart to start thinking about maximizing the weight loss now. Most of us don't even think about it until it starts to slow down. The first 6 months is truly the honeymoon period, the next 6 months it slows, then the 3rd six months, its work for most of us! I think JoAnn hit the nail on the head with the top 3-lots of protein, lots of water and EXERCISE. Also, learn early not to drink with or right after meals, keep the carbs and sugar low, and don't overstuff at meals. Eating many small frequent meals is a good way to go-it keeps the body fueled, staves off hunger, and will keep the metabolism burning those calories. Good luck.

My surgeon told me to maximize my weight loss by always eating protein first, and that the less carbs I ate the faster I would lose.

THis is an echo. Protein, Water, exercise. I don't think that not dumping is a blessing. I think it makes it harder to control your old demons. Poor you!
Please remember that just because you can eat something does not mean that you should or that in the long run it will not jump up and bite you. That bite may take the form of slowing your weight loss prematurely, letting you go back to old comfort foods instead of eating to nourish your body, and maybe, God forbid, leading to regaining the weight you have struggled to lose. For me it is more important to follow instructions for once in my life. I feel like I have been given a new baseball bat and a set of rules to play the game by. I am no longer making up my own rules as I go along. It is working for me.
open RNY 9-11-01 -135# from a size 24 to a size 6
