Question:
Does anyone else crave SALAD constantly?
Hi all! Well, this another silly question from me :). For the past few days, I've been craving SALAD! Just very simple salad made with romaine, tomatoes, and Kraft Light done Right Italian dressing. I've basically been getting all my protein from protein drinks, and have been having salad for my meals. Is this weird or has anyone else gone through this phase? My surgeon says it's ok for me to eat salad at this point (7 weeks post-op and down 45 pounds), so I'm not concerned about it being a bad thing other than the fact that I just crave it, crave it, crave it! I think I'd drink the dressing by itself, but that would be pretty gross... :) Thanks for your input!!! — SuzAnne S. (posted on February 15, 2003)

I'm right there with ya! I find myself NEEDING to eat at least one salad a
day. Chicken ceasar usually does it. I started craving them bad at 8
weeks. I am now 5 months out, and have to eat one every day. But I'm glad
my Hagaan Daaz cravings were replaced with lettuce cravings! Renee D

Yes, I crave salad all of the time. It's a bit calmed down now but
ohmigosh- for a while there......! I started to throw up after eating
salad the last few times. Who knows why you can handle some foods and then
you can't. Surgery 8-7-02 down 75lbs!

For the first four or five months I craved salad all the time. I hated
meat until I was about five months post op. So salad was I lived on. I
wasn't really eating anything with protein but I got it in with two Real
Meals a day for the 60 grams. It's funny I hated salads before the
surgery. I also craved sunflower seeds, I even put them on the salads.

Oh yes, I craved salads for a period of time, for like 4 weeks straight,
that is all I had, a very simple salad every day for lunch, iceburg
lettuce, white spanish onions, green peppers w/oil & vinegar on it...my
friends and family thought I was going to turn green and sprout
leaves...LOL.
After about 4 weeks, my craving tapered off...but I still have salad at
least 2 x a week. Good luck and Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~

Panera Bread (used to be called St. Louis Bread Company) has the best darn
salad. I have been eating it like crazy lately. It's called Asian Seasme
Chicken Salad. It is sooooo yummy! It has Romain lettuce and spinach
leaves, seasme seeds (my fav), wontons (like you put in your chinese soups)
and grilled Chicken (so it does have some protein) and then this yummy
oriental vinegrette type dressing. Oh the best part it has cilantro in it
too, which always has a very yummy flavor. Then they serve it with a piece
of warm french bread (which of course I can no longer eat, however, I do
steal a bite or two at least). It's a pretty large salad, but I can eat
almost the whole thing, it's soo good. My philosophy, if I must over
indulge, at least it's on salad and not french fries!

At my 4 week checkup I told them I was craving lettuce like crazy. I'm
almost at 6 weeks and still not approved for salad and it's making me
crazy. I want to eat salad more than any other single thing.

Me too! My theory is on such a protein-rich (and mushy early on) diet, we
feel the need for something crunchy and salad is crunchy. It is almost
like we're cheating, but not :-)

Hi there, SuzAnne! I always want a salad, sometimes more than any other
meal. Now, I have been putting other things in it, like avacado and even
that turkey pepperoni and last night, I put some sunflower seeds in it. I
wanted more! I figured it's better than craving other crunchy things like
chips. Enjoy! Vi. open RNY 9/23/02 down 105 lbs.

Isn't it a great feeling to crave salad rather than chips or chocolate. I
craved salad and still do all the time. The best thing is you can have
alot of it because it is healthy for you. Good Luck and keep up the good
work.

Well, now it IS nice knowing your own weird cravings are 'normal' after
all. My husband went on a diet when I came home after surgery. He would
eat salads and I would just smelllllllll that wonderful salad aroma and
hear him crunch, crunch, crunch away. Ah, those cucumbers smelled sooooo
good. I wanted salad in the WORSE way. It was several weeks before I
tried salad and it went down nicely. One thing different that I noticed
was I craved an Italian or vinaigrette type dressing. I was always SO
Ranch or Thousand Island dressings. I seemed to crave that tart taste.
Plus my salad wasn't as filling with the vinaigrette type vs the heavy
Ranch type of dressing. I sprinkle cheese on all my salads and that
validates the protein first thing. I am 3 1/2 months out and down
102lbs...open RNY. In case anyone's interested. ;)

I have a strong craving for salad with Wishbone Italian dressing quite
often. But I've always had a craving for veggies all my life, especially
tomatoes. One word of caution at 7-weeks, your body will have a tough time
with the peels of salad type veggies. Make sure you peel everything and
chew, chew, chew. There are worse things you can crave.

I had my first salad at 5 weeks post-op and thought it was the best thing I
had ever tasted! To this day (1 year post-op), I have a nice large salad
for lunch a few days a week-with grilled meat/chix, hard boiled egg, kidney
beans, cheese, and lots of veggies. YUM.

Hi, It's very normal, your body is craving water, and so you'll crave high
water content food. It's normal, drink more water, and eat more salads,
nothing wrong with it! :)
