Question:
Any suggestions on how to combat sugar cravings & hunger cravings?
I have a sweet tooth the size of Texas!! Any suggestions that worked for you that curbed your urge or craving for sugar? Also at 10 months post-op RNY I find that my appetite is coming back big time. Any suggestions, also on how to over come hunger more so than before? Thanks! — Allison T. (posted on February 2, 2003)

My favorite snack is the Good Humor 15 cal sugar free popsycles. They
really satisfy my cravings. Sometimes I have to eat 4-6 when I'm ravenous
but it does the trick. Another lady I know swears by her popcorn. She
suggests Pop Secret brand cause it's made with splenda. She's about a year
out, size 4 and insists it fills her up curing the munchies. Best wishes.

Russell Stovers makes great sugar free candy. I limit myself to 1 or 2
every 4 or 5 days and it is great. I also eat GRANNY SMITH APPLES - They
do the trick.

I am almost 10 months postop as well. I know exactly what you are talking
about with the sugar cravings...and carbs too!! There are a lot of sugar
free alternatives out there for us to choose from. There's SF baskin
robbins hard candy in a mint chocolate chip flavor..they are to die for!!
You can get them for under a buck at walmart. Sugar free hot chocolate is
always a good treat. I agree with another poster about SF popsicles too. As
far as SF russell stovers candy...they are pretty good...but they are like
70 calories for one piece...I try not to eat it too often...my husband
bought me a whole box of the pecan delights for christmas..I have eaten
only 3 so far. Carbs kill me. I try to steer clear of them. I grab beef
jerky instead or popcorn...which I love both. I find that if I am sitting
idle, like zoning out watching TV..that's when head hunger hits me big
time. So, I do my best trying to stay busy. Hang in there, you are not
alone!!!

I've been told that the only thing that will curb your cravings for sugar
is to eliminate it from your diet. The more sugar you eat, the more you
will crave. I have a huge sweettooth too and I do feed it, but try to do
more SF products that sugared ones, but I will admit, I do have some sugar
every day-my protein bars have 13 grams of sugar in them. As for hunger,
if you are hungry, EAT! You should never be hungry-but just choose filling
good for you things like strips of grilled chicken, an apple, or 1/2 a
banana. Try 5-6 small mini-meals a day to see if that helps with the
hunger.

Healthy Choice and Blue Bunny have some great ice cream pops which are
good. Today I puchased these protein bars called Detour, they taste like a
Snickers candy bar. They have something like 32g of protein. Hope it
helps.
