Question:
Any recommendations for pre-ops wanting to experiment with protein supps?
I plan to go to GNC and/or Walmart tomorrow and want to pick up protein of some kind (powder, shake) to experiment with. I've read that tastes can change after surgery, but I still want to get a feel for what it will be like post-op. What are some of the things I should be looking for? — Sherry G. Instead of buying some big tubs of stuff, you might want to go to
www.vitalady.com and order samples. I did this a couple of times, and it
saved me some bucks, lemme tell ya! They have more choices than GNC, but at
GNC, you can take back whatever you don't like. I've taken back quite a few
things since surgery that I thought I could stand, and now I can't. So
anyway, hope that helps.
Take care,

Hi, I am pre op w/ a date of 2/18. I have tried several protein
supplements so I don't have tpo experiment later on,m post op. I sent for
the realMeals and didn't like it. Too gritty, and just didn't taste good.
I made the chocolate with cold skim milk in a shaker. I then bought
premade shakes at GNC. I tried the Myoplex low carb chocolate and the
Atkins Advantage Chocolate Royale. Both were pretty good, but the Atkins
is higher in fat. My nutritionist said it was ok since we don't eat too
much fat in total post op anyway. The Atkins Cafe Au lait was pretty bad.
Threw it out. Anyway, you can see I'm not much for the non chocolate
flavors, and just don't expect ANY of these supplements to taste like a
McDonald's shake. Good luck!

I bought and tried all kinds of protein drinks before I had surgery. They
were all gross. Luckily tho, I bought some samples from vitalady.com. I
tried them all and I hated every one of them. Then, 3 months postop I came
across the second set that I had put away in the cupboard (I had bought 2
of each to try) I got them out again and found one that I really like and
still use. Its Proscore 100. So what I'm saying is, your tastes will
change after surgery, so I'd just wait until after to do your
expirementing and save yourself some money. Good luck!

Speaking from my own experience...Unless you purchase a few samples from
Vitalady.com, I suggest that you don't bother. Your tastes will change
dramatically after surgery and even if you do find something that you like,
chances are that you won't like it post-op. Personally, I LOVE my protein
drink, but it took me almost 3 months to find the perfect recipe. I use 1
scoop of Vanilla Isopure, 1 scoop of Vanilla Carb solutions, 8 oz of water,
1/2 packet of Swiss Miss "Diet" Hot Cocoa and 4 ice cubes. Put
it in a blender and YUM! I truly look forward to having my drink every
morning. Good Luck!
