Question:
Buffered C and Zinc - Are these okay to take?

Hello there, Amos! I have yet another cold and this time I found some "buffered" vitamin c from gnc, my husband got some gnc brand zinc 30 mgs.. The bottle says it's chelated, does anyone know what that means? I read that zinc is ok, but just as long as it's not taken on an empty stomach, is this true? Has anyone else taken these type or does anyone know if it's ok for our tummies? Thanks, Vi. open RNY 9/23/02 down 87 lbs.    — Vi F. (posted on January 12, 2003)

Chelated means that the desired element (c) is coated to allow it to be fully absorbed by your body. It is a good thing as c normally leaves our bodies the first time we urinate after taking it and absorbtion can be poor. I do not know about the zinc but as it is chelated I would think it is ok on an empty stomach.
