I bought a lot of samples from Vitalady before surgery, so I could get an idea of the kinds of brands and flavors I liked. My taste didn't change too much after surgery and then I knew the kinds I liked. I bought a lot of them, so I was set for the first week or so after surgery.

I would wait because your taste buds mite change, you can sample flavors dont buy a bunch of stuff before surgery things tend to change after, its all about trial and error after your big day..just my opinion. do try whey designer chocalate protien with a banana, put in a blender with ice its soo dang yummy!

Since your surgery is Jan 31, I would get your protein now and start preloading. This preloading is getting as much protein into your body now to help promote healing. I'm a major advocate regarding preloading protein due to when I had laproscopic gallbladder surgery, it took me 4 months to heal. For my gastric bypass surgery, I started my protein one month before surgery and within 2 weeks following surgery, I was healing wonderfully. If you do start your protein now and then after surgery your tastes changes, down the road later you may find that you like it again. Congrats on your upcoming surgery.

I'd say get it AFTER surgery as there is a reasonable chance your tastes are going to change. As for me I never did those shitty protein drinks. I tried lots of them and could'nt stand the taste of any. What a waste of money. I ate mostly meat and cheese and had an extremely high protein level without those drinks. But hey, whatever works for you. ;)

Your tastes will change once post-op and early post-op you may not be able to handle the shakes. It took me a good month or so before I could handle them. If you go to www.vitalady.com, you can buy some samples for just a few bucks each until you find the one(s) that you really like. My fav is Isopure Zero Carb powder, and I do like the Real Meals, but everyone has different tastes.

Everyone is different, so, I cannot say you will immediatley be able to get yours' form food! For me, the first 6 wks, I ate whatever I could stomach (I didn't care about protein content at this point)...For me, it was getting comfortable with my new tummy. I drank 3 CIB's daily, then like a night switch, at 6 wks, I could stomach meat, chicken, seafood, etc...I have not had a protein shake since. I would hold off on buying alot of expensive shakes you might not like...CIB SF is great and your protein content IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT IN THE BEGINNING! If you wann try some shakes, get some from Michele Curan (www.vitalady.com) she has samples for 1.99 of all the popular brands! Good Luck! Heather (8/15 - 305/224/150)

I wouldn't buy A LOT of them before hand, but it would be good to have a few. Vitalady (www.vitalady.com) sells samples, which might be a good start. My doctor's office recommended Carnation Instant Breakfast. I bought 3 boxes beforehand, and I still have 1 box left (I don't drink them anymore). Good luck!

My surgeon said he wanted us on a clear liquid diet with our surgar free carnation instant breakfast protein drink along with arginaid by resource. So I bought several boxes of each before so that I would have them when I got home. The arginaid is to help promote healing from within. They even had us drink it in the hospital before we came home.

My opinion would be to wait until after your surgery to buy your protien drinks. The main reason for this is that, for me anyways, my tastes changed dramatically. I bought a drink before surgery and then after surgery I didn't like it at all. Everything as far as taste goes changed. You can do what you wish, but be aware that most people's thaste change.
