Question:
Weight loss after RNY
Hi Everyone: This may be kind of a strange question, but I hope someone can relate. I am almost 14 weeks postop and I have found this to be true. Fortunately, my hunger has not returned yet, so I pretty much follow the same routine every day, non-caloric liquids, protein, exercise, etc. In other words, the so-called right things. As far as my weight loss, the weight just seems to drop when it wants to. I do these same things week after week. Sometimes I will lose a pound, sometimes 3. I compare it to having a baby. You may have a due date, but that baby is going to come when it wants to, no matter what you have in mind. Sometimes my weight will truly drop, but I have not done anything different. It has taken me over 3 months, but for me, it seems as if I just have to wait and see what each week brings. It is not a matter of cheating or carbs or anything else. It is just my body releasing the weight when it is good and ready. Anyone else feel like this? Love Grace — Grace H. (posted on December 3, 2002)

This is exactly how it works for me. It seems like I stay the same for
many days and then drop 3 pounds at a time. And there appears to be no
correlation to what I've eaten; sometimes when I've eaten what I think is
alot the next day I've dropped the 3 pounds.

Hi Grace,
I have not tried this personally but I have heard a lot of people say that
when your weight isn't coming off as quickly as you think it should and you
are following what you are supposed to. People have said that it isn't
what you are eating that might be wrong but the amount. It doesn't make
much sense but sounds like you should be eating more. I have heard a lot
of people swear by this and that it really works. I figure it's worth a
try. Even the previous post said something to the same effect in that she
had the same problem, wouldn't lose anything then after the day she thought
she ate a lot she dropped 3 pounds. I hope that helps. Good luck! :)

I have to agree Grace with the previous two posters. I believe are bodies
are designed if it isn't getting enough food is shuts down to protect us
from loosing weight because it believes we are starving it. So I must work
hard on getting my protein amt in and even harder for me is my water
intake. I just don't feel like eating or drinking alot of the time but I
force myself. And I notice some days I'll loose inches, I can tell cause I
am able to zip up a new size of jeans that I couldnt 3 days ago but I
havent dropped any #'s on the scale. So as long as you know you are doing
what you should be doing, let your body take care of itself.

AMEN GRACE! I am right there with you. I have noticed I do lose more and at
a quicker rate when I keep my cals @ at least 700. Anything less and I get
stuck. So I think eating more is accurate, the problem is after years of
dieting and depriving ourselves, at least for me it is really hard to say
ok I need to eat another 300 cals today. On average I am totally satisfied
@ 400-500 a day, but my weight loss is almost non exsistent when I go that
low...Go figure, instead of trying to starve ourselves now we have to force
ourselves to eat enough...strange but, well worth it...Open RNY 9/25/02
down 42lbs.
