Question:
Is 2-3 ounces of pureed food WEIGHT or VOLUME?
My nutritionist is still getting me confused. I am supposed to have 2-3 ounces of protein at a time, pureed. then she showed me a small cup and said my food should not be bigger than that. What are people using to measure...a scale or a measuring cup?? (1/3 cup I suppose)I am still not really ever feeling FULL, and I am 3 weeks post op. I do stop eating after the 2 or 3 ounces, but hope I haven't stretched the pouch. THANKS — Linda 1. (posted on November 12, 2002)

Linda - the nutritionist is talking volume ounces and
not weight ounces. At about 4 months out, I can
eyeball it now, but I was using the measuring cups before. Good luck in
your weight loss...JR

I know it can be scary and a big mystery when you're newly postop. Your
body will tell you when it's had enough. The shakes have been a lifesaver
for me since for the first few months, 3 shakes daily were my protein
source and I would supplement with veggies and fruit (and proteins like PB,
cottage cheese and tuna). Your body is still healing. Go slowly and
you'll do well. You have the rest of your life to introduce
"new" foods. Hope this helps.

oops! I have been weighing the food and then pureeing it. I think I may
have been having a little too much volume. Hope I haven't stretched the
pouch. I am usually pretty good at understanding this kind of stuff, must
still have some post anesthesia brain fog going on.

Linda - The pureed food is not going to do a lot of pouch stretching. I
think you are fine with what you have been doing...JR
