Question:
Is there a way to judge how much of an apron you will have?
I'm pre-op and am trying to imagen where the skin will hang to after losing weight. I have seen people who lost a lot of weight and will then have a apron of skin hanging almost to their knees. How can you tell if your belly is going to sag lower than it sits now? When standing my belly is over my hips but I can still see my private area when standing in front of a mirror. Will it hang even lower after weight loss? — jocelyn (posted on November 11, 2002)

There are alot of factors that determine this- your age (younger is
better), if you have had kids (no kids is better), and your genes. All of
these help to determine how much elasticity your skin has to bounce back.
I have found that your surgeon with lots of WLS experience can often tell
before surgery if you will have apron hang. Mine was right on the money
with me. (I was hoping he was wrong!)
